HELP PLEASE!!!
Wondering if anyone has practical tips for getting my baby to calm down and sleep in his crib. It is officially no longer safe for him to sleep in the rocker attachment of his pack n play. He is rolling from back to front and has reched the weight limit.
However, when we try to get him to sleep flat in his crib, he freaks out. Does anyone have any unusual or creative tips for helping him become more at ease. He cried for like 2 hours last night and cried right through his first naptime today.
Ive tried the usual shushing, singing, patting, etc. When he gets really upset I pick him up and try to calm him but it doesnt do much good. Just not sure what to do to help him get through this (while keeping my sanity intact).
@vward, ya it is hard. My son had a hard time transitioning to his crib even though we did it when he was 2 months old. Is the crib in your room or is he in his own room?? I noticed my son did better at first when he was in our room. The sleep sack should help. My son refused the sleep sack and always has to sleep with his blankie that he's had since he was born. I always have to watch the monitor and slowly take it away before I go to sleep.
@mpeterson1517 thanks. I think he just has to get used to it. Right now any state of alertness results in wailing. He'll adjust eventually. Its just rough. I ordered a magic sleep suit today so hooefully that will help.. Otherwise I guess we'll all just suffer through the transition
I have always put my son down fed, changed, and awake but sleepy. I put him in his crib when he showing signs of being ready to sleep. For my son it's rubbing his eyes and whining. That has always helped. Whenever I would put him in when he's already asleep, he would just wake right up. And if you put him down when he's too awake and he will be upset. Giving a bath right before bedtime helps also.
My pediatrician has told me to no longer use the baby Dock-aTot, but why, when she sleeps so sound in it? Its breathable material and I was told she could use it up to 9 months, which is why were still using it. We started using it after she was a month old.
Trying to put him down for his 2nd nap attempt today.. He finally stopped crying for a minute.. But he rolled onto his side and started playing with the crib bars...
@mommy.to.sterling well thanks for the input. I'm really REALLY hoping je will adjust quickly or else I might lose my mind lol
@mommy.to.sterling Last night after 2 hours of crying and trying to soothe him various ways he slept for like 4 hours. He wont take a pacifier either and if I get him to sleep in my arms or while nursing he wakes up as soon as I lay him down. 😖
Have you tried a crib wedge? So he's not completely flat.
@mommy.to.sterling did you end up just having to let him cry or did you figure out a way to help calm him down?
@candidbabex I might try that again although with him rolling now I'm nervous about having a pillow in there. Perhaps for naps when I can watch him..
@mommy.to.sterling hes in the crib. We've had the rocker attachment sitting in the crib for a long time now so hes still in the same place he's just on the mattress now instead of the rocker. It just hurts my heart hearing him cry for so long, and picking him up just starts the cycle all over again. Hoping he'll adjust within a few days to a week at most.
@beebaby I hear you. Thanks for the input but those wont work for us. *Sigh* hes rolling so we can't swaddle and he never liked it anyway. And he hates being on his tummy. Why so difficult?! I'm sure we'll get through it I was just hoping someone might have something we haven't heard of or tried yet.
Maybe try naps on the back during the day. You can maybe try swaddling. Sometimes is a reflex that stops them from being comfy on the back. My child is a tummy sleeper for that reason
@chelli Swaddling is no longer an option since he is rolling (he always hated it anyway) and we are not cosleepers. Looking for ways to calm him in the crib not alternatives to the crib. Thanks for the input though.
@beebaby he doesn't cosleep, that's not the issue. The only way he would sleep was in that rocker but hes been in his own room for 2 months. The issue is transitioning from the cradle position to flat on back. And also he freaks out when he rolls to his belly.
The baby is still young. He spent almost a year with you. Baby wants to be with you. My daughter is five months and wont sleep alone.
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
Science!
My friend posted this on facebook last night and said her kids were asleep within minutes. It's a song that scientists created to help people fall asleep. I was skeptical but I thought what the hay, I'll try it out. I didn't bank on Dh falling asleep, but both him and lo were asleep by minute 2. And lo slept six straight hours. ?

@mpeterson1517 hes been sleeping in his own room for over 2 months. We had the rocker attachment of the pack n play sitting in his crib in the hopes that it would make the transition easier since he's been sleeping there just not on the mattress.., :/ it didnt work lol
