Do they start checking your cervix at 36 weeks?

My cervix was never checked

My doctor started checking at 38 weeks. I'm sure if I was having contractions before that tho she would have checked

I had to have my checked due to Braxton Hicks Contractions and it hurt! Now I'm afraid to get checked lol.
