Any Momma's have difficulty with their kids bringing home books/turning in homework?
My son is in 5th grade and is in advanced classes. But he talks so much that he doesn't bring home his homework and I'm constantly getting notes home.
This year he's in cross country. It's be second week of school and he has gotten 2 notes home for missing assignments already and he didn't bring his spelling homework home last night.
I have grounded him to his room, taken his phone, we've done reward systems and game plans with his teacher
To NO avail.
On one hand he gets good grades, on the other hand he doesn't complete his work.
I am at my whits end with him.
I don't want to take away cross country because I think it's good for him to be in a sport for every reason from team building to exercise. But school work HAS to come first.
Suggestions?

@chantellekrown, I work in the schools and I would talk to his teacher. Have him use an assignment notebook that needs to be checked by the teacher after each class or the end of the day to make sure all his assignments are in his folder. Maybe try a reward system....so many days of bringing home homework = something special...teachers are usually good about supporting parents who are pro active

I would kinda do the same thing in 6th grade...if you got something wrong on an assignment my teacher would let you correct it and turn it in again for full credit..if u made the corrections... well I would just hold on to them in my desk and I told myself I would work on it later....we'll progress report time came and I had a bunch of incomplete on them and we had to get our reports signed by our parents. Well when my mom saw that she signed me up for power up after school on tues. It's for a hr after school and u have to bring ur homework to that group. I hated it!! My mom made me go until the next progress report came and saw I didn't have anymore incomplete work. Idk if ur sons school has that. If it doesn't maybe not take away cross country cuz I do agree kids need to be in sports but have him do the practices but he has to sit on the side lines for meets he gets in his uniform but has to sit on the sidelines and cheer his teammates on until he can get his schoolwork together. School first sports second

@bethann87, I told him that. Write your assignments down and check your assignment notebook to be sure everything goes in your bag. He won't even write his stuff down half the time.

I think just making sure it's written down and folder coming home is a start like you're saying. Those items come home, but not filled with what he needs. And those are the tiny details we need to get him focused on.
Thanks for the tip. ☺️

My daughter has an assignment book and bring home folder. If i don't see those two things every day there's no phone or tv that day. She's in 5th grade too. I don't know what that will help with him remembering to bring the assignment home specifically but maybe more thought on those specific items will help him remember the assignment?
