@hperry845, there are many other ways to learn. The school system isn't right for all children, and some thrive with being unschooled, or homeschooled.I plan to travel with my boys, and I will un school them while we are gone

I'm glad you had a good experience in school, but that's not the case for many children. Children need more than the first 5 years of life to have the freedom to learn the way they were meant to.
And by the way my son was 3 when he started kindergarten, and is 5 going into grade 1.
Its not that common... maybe 1% of kids in Canada. For a good reason. If you want a job in the future, you need formal education. I can't believe this even needs to be said
@hperry845, that's not true at all. Unschooled children still go to university, and I went to college without going to high school. It is very common in the world, lots of families choose to travel with their children and teach them as they go, these kids have no problem getting into college or university, they are still learning everything they need to know, just in a different way. How is that so hard to understand.
Going to school teaches you basic things, traveling with family teaches you so much more! At no point in my life of being in school did i ever learn how to pay bills or what a downpayment on a house was and how long it would take to pay off, i never learned these things until i left school and learned on my own, i think its important for kids to learn things that they actually need to know.
True, but school learning is so important also. The rest really is up to the parents unfortunately. Kifs don't need to miss out on the school experience to learn other ways
@coltonsmommy17, that's what I think too, there are so many life lessons to learn outside of school, life skills. I want my kids to feel brave enough to do what they want in life meet new people. My son loves to talk to people on plans and trains, and learn about new things.
while you aren't at school you can go to museums, and parks to learn about history, nature, and other cultures.
Most of the things I learned in life I learned along the way, like time management skills. My kids will be pros after traveling through the U.K. For six months.

It might work for a few months while children are young, but school provides so much more than just book learning. Not to mention the subject matter it does teach is what's relevant in current society, and many parents don't have a clue about whats important.
@hperry845, and of course you are allowed your own opinion. But it's not difficult to get a curriculum for a homeschooling program, so they are up to date on all the subjects.
It really all depends on the child and how they learn. The school system can be amazing for some kids, and the worst possible option for others that don't learn the way teachers teach. Taking my kids out of school for months at a time gives me a chance to give them the one on one that they need and will not get in a school system.

That's why mandatory school doesn't start until age 5. After that, school learning is so important
