Is it okay for an almost 10 month old to eat oatmeal, with a quarter piece of a regular sized banana for breakfast EVERY SINGLE DAY? I've tried some other recipes suggested by a few moms on here, but she didn't really take to eating those too much.
@sheri-z I see what the pediatrician is saying, I've had that talk with myself. If I ever saw him choke on a food I'd stop giving it to him but in reality i knew he needed to learn the importance of taking time to chew his few and to know when it is okay and when it's not okay to swallow on his own. Hes smart enough and capable enough to learn I just had to have faith in him and step back a little. So I learned the baby himelick manuever as a precaution give him everything. He knows better now, if he can't chew it small enough or it's too hard to separate to swallow he'll spit it out.
I give Eej baby yogurt with some steamed fruit mixed in for breakfast. He LOVES it.
@beebaby it's crazy, she doesn't realize I have to be comfortable and have some degree of confidence while feeding her. But I think I'll just to give her very small pieces of food a few times each day. Just to get her in the habit of chewing.
@logansjay ahh, sometimes I put a couple slices of Apple in there to mix it up. 😁
@beebaby Yes, I agree. All babies are different and do things at a different pace. I was pretty confident in using her baby Bullet to make her food mushy and also mushing out her oatmeal in the mornings since she enjoys eating that. But then I went to her pediatric appointment a couple of days ago and the nurse that saw us, suggested that I was "holding her back" (her exact words), by being too nervous about putting a whole piece of food in her mouth because of her gagging. That rocked my confidence and made me second-guess myself. Now I'm wondering if I am somehow hindering her from transitioning to that stage. Especially since it's something that I've been concerned about in the past.
@sheri-z gagging is a normal reflex and unfortunately they have to get past that or it just gets more difficult to get her to eat. I know its freaky to watch them look like they're choking but its the only way they learn to swallow other foods! My kids were the same way
@ilovemychildren @beebaby okay, I'm always thinking that at this stage, she should be eating what I'm eating each day. But she's such a "gaggy" child. So I'm always having mini heart attacks each time I try to feed her, for example; scrambled eggs or something.
@brittneycjo Yes, Thank you for that insight. I'm trying her with little bits of food day by day and trying to calm my anxieties. I can wait for her and I to eat the same foods together!
