Mom's how bad is lunch meat during pregnancy I am 4 months today and am on vacation so we have been picnicking a lot with sandwiches and chips easy and less expensive but I have heard bad things about lunch meat
I work in the food industry. When pregnant lunch meat should only be eaten when purchased prepackaged from a name brand like Hormel or hillshire farms. Never buy lunch meat from a deli. Most LM recalls for listeria are due to delis not properly cleaning their slicing machines. Also you should not purchase a deli sandwich from a restaurant like Subway, Jimmy Johns or Arby's. The safest meats are those that are HPP'd or High Pressure Pasteurized these have a bacteria "kill" step applied post packaging by applying high amounts of pressure to the package so that it bursts all bacteria in the package. The only company I know that does this is Hormel Foods.
I was nervous about listeria, too, including in hotdogs. But I craved lunchmeat so I ate it nearly every day. Lol you just never know what it'll be found in so if anything check for recalls before eating that brand, at least.
Well were on the beach so no microwave and I've only ate it mainly on this trip
I heated mine up b4 eating but I don't bother now. Heard it's rare to get listeria from sandwhich meat
