What Does Echogenic Bowel Mean in a 20-Week Ultrasound?
Hi mommies... I had a question for everyone. I received my 20 week anatomy ultrasound results today. They called to say they found a echogenic bowel, however my labs in my first trimester at 13 1/2 weeks were normal( age risk was 1:867; mss Down syndrome was 1:5000; mss trisomy 18 was 1:5000) so they are referring me to another doctor for further testing and should receive a call in a week or two. At every ultrasound I was told he is normal and healthy. Nasal bone measured normal, no clinched fists... normal heart...I'm also only 20 years old, husband is 21, and trisomy 21 does not run in either of our families. I have a cousin with trisomy 8p. And that's the only family member as far as we both know of. So hearing this really put me in shock.
I know no one is a doctor on here and can't tell me much but if anyone has gone through this or knows alittle bit about it, it may put my mind at ease hearing your stories and outcome. I'm so worried.💙

Not sure if this is the same thing or not, but my daughter had an echogenic focus on her heart (bright spot) when i had my anatomy scan done.

Sometimes things are misread on an ultrasound, if all the other ones were fine I wouldn't start to worry yourself. They're just taking an extra precaution to make sure. Most likely they thought it was something and wanted another physicians help and opinion. If it's not in the family then it's just a system error.

I really wouldn't worry much. Blood is usually better then ultrasound and sometimes people make mistakes.

@korahleah_11, @kami24706, @juliaschade41, I went for a second opinion and they found it too. They also found another bright spot above his stomach which typically leads to a virus. I'm getting an amnio on Wednesday.

At my NT scan they found some fluid behind baby’s neck measuring 3.6/3.8 and limit is 3.0 switched ultrasound techs bc we weren’t comfortable how they presented it to us and scared us we just had another scan on Thursday I’m almost 18 weeks now and they found a bright spot on baby’s bowel so we did blood test MaterniT test and more blood to test for CF and paravirus, I get results back in 2-3 weeks, I understand your concerns I’ve been reading a lot on it and it could be a few things just a tech issue with the equipment, baby could have swallowed some blood, I’m praying and I’m praying for you too! Keep me posted
