I mean it can, but most of the time it's if your head is actually submerged under water for a period of time., not just splashed or even hit with water from the shower. I used to get outer ear infections multiple times a summer as a little kid. But I had really sensitive ears and it was only if I swam in a pool under water.

I was worried when mine was younger but now I'm just like whatever . When water gets in there I just dab it out...... they are allowed to go under water when swimming and have water births so I think your fine ....
