Anybody feed newborn formula when their cluster feeding and breast milk isn't working quick enough?
@beebaby, really? Lactation consultant at the hospital told me when he starts doing that to feed him. She also said pumping now is great stimulation and will get my milk going good.
@ravens_mommy, clearly that's a part of it. But I'd rather supplement than listen to my baby cry and scream to the top of his lungs because he isn't getting enough milk. My midwife told me to do formula while I stimulate for a day to get my breast milk to come in as it should and it worked. Plus he and I got sleep.
Part of being a mom to a newborn is not getting any sleep. Supplementing with formula stretches the stomach.
Well I agree. You won't get sleep during a cluster feed. I fed my daughter every half hour for 3 hours before she was ready to sleep. Just how it works. Just telling that you don't need to supplement, you have what you need. But hands to mouth can also be for comfort and sucking on blankets. And you don't want to pump this early. Especially if you can nurse.
@beebaby, when he's sucking on his shirt and trying to suck his covers that IS my cue. I've had to supplement 3 times already because he's cluster feeding and I couldn't get any sleep. I pump to stimulate so I'm not neglecting my breast milk
Breastmilk is enough. Trust your body. Not every cue is a hunger cue. Just keep offering breast. The more you supplement, the more you will have to supplement and less milk you will make.
How many mamys breast feed & formula feed ?
Breastfeeding.
I am a HUGE breastfeeding advocate. No, I will NOT shame you if you decide to formula feed, and will not tolerate anyone else doing so on my post. Everyone has their own reasons on why they feed their child the way they see fit.
I'm not planning to breast feed but would you ladies recommend breast feeding for the first time or straight onto bottles? Everyone keeps telling me different and I need advice! 😓
Nursing helps your milk come in especially when it is on demand. You don't need to supplement, you just gotta put baby to breast. I can pump and get nothing sometimes. Did she tell you pumping can cause oversupply, mastitis and clogged ducts.
