We just rescued him about 7 weeks ago. And now we get our second at the end of the month 😍😍
@adensmommy2014, thank you so much doll! You're so sweet!!💕
My sisters have both had raccoons as pets. And of the three, the female was the only one that ever got somewhat aggressive.
@sixplus1, I haven't met many animals that aren't nosey!
@starwars-mom they really are awesome pets. Of course safe handling always makes a difference. They are naturally nosey little creatures and if given too much freedom they will rummage thru everything. But they are animals.... Lol that should be expected. 😀
@sixplus1, oh how precious!!! I love animals so much but fostering breaks my heart always. @starwars-mom, yes, you can get them vaccinated but to my knowledge the only way for them to get the rabies virus, is to be bitten by another creature with the virus. He's been hand raised since about 6 weeks and has absolutely no signs of rabies (aggression, foaming at the mouth, etc) plus he will be an inside raccoon
@starwars-mom oh and they get 2 different distemper vaccines because raccoons can get either canine or feline distemper.
@starwars-mom Normal vaccines for raccoons are rabies, parvo, and distemper.
I don't mean to sound rude, but as far as shot wise goes, do they get the same as dogs do? The rabies, parvo shot, etc???
@ashtonndamon, they are very smart, but the cage has two sides that have to be pinched inward and pushed out to be opened and the two sides are located on the outside of the cage.
@sixplus1, that's wonderful that he recovered so well!
Arnt you worried about them watching you open the cage? I got told they are really smart and watch what you do and learn
@dalliesmama the power company cut limbs out of the top of a tree and he came tumbling down. They took him to the vet. He was very shaken and bleeding from his nose, which is almost always a sign of fatal injuries. The vet called us and we signed his papers. Brought him home, he recovered very well. Just starting to transition to fruits/veggies and off of bottles.
@sixplus1, I love taking care of animals that people are like OMG! You have a what?! (I LOVE** all animals, like my cat is my actual child lol) but these make for great conversation. I had a pink toed tarantula for the longest!
@dalliesmama this is our 8th rehab. I love them! One of my favorite animals 😍
@mommysbabies, they're adorable! we had gotten mine while he was so young and I was the only one who fed him and such and he kinda imprinted on me.
She had a whole litter they were so cute she let me bottle feed one
@mommysbabies, we kept my opossum until he passed. He was very sweet and slept with me at night.
Yeah I just remember the possums my teacher rescued and when they got bigger they had to release them
@bebefever94, well, my husband grew up with 2 of them and I grew up with 3 and an opossum, so I'm very aware of behaviors haha. Definitely no plans to be left alone with any of the children or the baby. 😊
@beebaby, so far he's very gentle with my three step children. They are VERY grabby kids. He either sits and let's them pet or runs and hides.
They are very destructive just so you know not out of bad behavior but just curiosity. My uncle had on one it burrowed into his walls and made a tunnel system to get around and once they get to a certain age even when raised by humans since infancy they become a bit aggressive. Just be careful and definitely never leave him alone with the baby.
@ashleydunn, they're so sweet when you hand raise them and so funny! Thankfully he's a bit bigger and getting closer to being weaned off a bottle. He should be weaned off in 2-3 weeks time.
@beebaby, the exact same way you would a cat. They are really similar, raccoons are just a bit more active.
@mommysbabies, he has a very large cage and we supervise him when he's let out because they are very curious.💕😊
I'd be careful with a baby on the away raccoon might try to suffocate baby
@beebaby, if you raise them from babies, they are literally just like cats. They use the litter box and everything.
@ashleydunn, I had done the same with a orphaned opossum when I was younger!💕 I'm a devout animal lover.
@sawyersmom, he's perfect! I wanna love him.
