#mombassadorchat

Today we have @Jordyn_beth chatting about Mental Health! Share your stories and advice and ask her anything!

Jordyn is a college student studying child psychology. She has a 6 month old son named Bradley. Jordyn also is working full time and runs her own online business. Through personal and professional experience, Jordyn has learned some tools that are helpful when dealing with anxiety, stress, and depression. Some ways to cope and thrive with these conditions include meditating, scheduling mental health breaks and days, and seeking help when needed.

Here are some tips! Start meditating. It can be even five minutes of just focusing on breathing. It helps a lot with anxiety and knowing your body. Working out and practicing yoga can release energy and anger, not to mention hormones that will help you feel your best. Ask for help. When you feel run down, ask someone to watch the kids and take a mental health day. It's okay to see a doctor and counselor. They are paid to help you and listen to you. Find one you like and don't miss appointments.

Share your experiences and ask Jordyn questions in the comments below. Thank you @Jordyn_beth for this awesome chat!

Are you in school for psychology or are you a licensed professional discussing about mental health? Or is this a discussion based on real life experience? @mom.life_usa,

jordyn_beth

J

Of course!! I'm very passionate about mental health, especially with what I'm going to school for and from personal experience.

jordyn_beth

J

@nurseriri, real life experience, work experience, and from what I'm studying in school. I'm not a licensed professional, so if there's a serious matter and you're in harm, please contact a doctor

How would you know if you are going through depression?

jordyn_beth

J

@juliamarielovesyou1997, normal near the end of pregnancy! I'd definitely consult your OB if you're concerned.

jordyn_beth

J

@loving_the_mommy_life, mostly when it's interfering with your daily life. A sad day is normal, but when you're having lots of them and you have no motivation, or lots of anger, that's a good sign that you should talk to a doctor

@jordyn_beth the comment you made above sounds like my life lately if it's not continuous days it's at least every other day, or toward the evening is when it really hits.

I thought it was just me being tired from the new baby, but I notice more & more signs that are leading me more than just tired. ..

Is this PPD, & where I should mention it to my doctor. Or is this typical for a new mom, & strategies stated above should help.

I personally have anxiety and intern causes depression. It is so scary one time I was having an attack and I couldn't catch my breath for 20-30 minutes

jordyn_beth

J

@kmarie1303, being tired makes things much worse. Do you have someone who can help with your son so you can rest? I would try the strategies along with some journaling in addition to talking to your doctor at your 6 week checkup, if not sooner. Depression can snowball quickly, and motherhood is something that should be enjoyed. Remember you can always message me!

jordyn_beth

J

@shayla.galloway, it's so scary and uncomfortable. It's so important to find strategies that work. I hope for the best for you!!

@jordyn_beth thank you have you ever personally dealt with panic attacks?

jordyn_beth

J

@shayla.galloway, yes. I have severe anxiety. It's been a long time coming but I've gotten much better at working through them

I want to know what helps the mom brain. I feel like I forget a lot of things or I don't remember. I have been taking yoga and working out. I see some improvement but I want my memory as it was before baby. Any advice?

Is it normal to feel sad or down a lot during pregnancy? Ive struggled with PPD with my previous pregnancies but never while i was pregnant...id like to chalk it up to hormones or normal stress but i just dont know anymore

jordyn_beth

J

@shayla.galloway, prevention: meds. Coping: as soon as I felt the slightest bit anxious, I would acknowledge it and try to find out why. It helped me to know why I was anxious and accept it. I then moved onto grounding exercises. 5 things I could see, 4 things I could hear, 3 things I could touch, two things I could smell, and 1 thing I could taste. Focusing on this usually brought me in enough to do some meditation/focusing on breathing until I felt a little better. Avoiding what makes me anxious if possible helps a lot

jordyn_beth

J

@ctrejo06, I experienced this! If it's more than occasionally, I'd talk to your doctor because there are meds that are safe while pregnant. You want to enjoy pregnancy! Please don't be afraid to ask for help

Both my son have mental health issues like ADHD Bipolar mood disorder OCD OCC it's a true challenge to deal with on a regular basis. Doctors push meds like there is no tomorrow. My son Ty Ty has been on 15 different control substance meds. I have experienced mental health through my sons eyes. Watching them get poked to check their blood level every month to redirecting them over and over and over again. My son's are 7 and 9 and they have experienced seen more mental health doctors I can count on both of my hands. Each time they see a new doctor it's a new medicine they won't to try. I wish my sons didn't have mental health issues 😢😢 to breaks my heart to see them go through what they go through on a daily basis. The cost for their meds is outrageous and each doctor visit the doctors get richer. Both of my sons were diagnosed at a young age. I was in denial at first like how can my sons how mental health issues. I cried many nights asking why my sons. Why do my sons have to go through this ? Why can't they be normal like other kids their age. Then I realize they were normal they were exactly how God made them the way they are supposed to be @jordyn_beth, #mombassdorchat

@jordyn_beth thank you so much.

jordyn_beth

J

@smilingwithmyawesome4kids, acceptance is so important. Have you tried essential oils? It isn't for everyone, but frankincense, lavender, and bergamot diffused helps with my bipolar disorder. I know other people have luck with oils for ADHD. I work with lots of kids with disorders. It's hard, but I love being able to help them cope and work through their challenges

@jordyn_beth heres a question. How in the world do i deal with my anxiety. I get scared when my kid rides a bike! My husband says sometimes i ruin her childhood experiences bc im always yelling at her to be careful. When shes in the shower, im always afraid sge will fall n break her neck. This anxiety legit rules and ruins my days. Help me!!

jordyn_beth

J

@karadearing2332, have you tried counseling? I don't know where I would be without it. Kids get hurt, and moms worrying about it is natural. Accepting that yes she will get hurt and yes you will worry is important. But I'd remind yourself that you've gotten her this far. Instead of thinking about the worst case scenario, think of three positive outcomes that could occur.

Yes acceptance is the key is mental health . I have tried the oils they work for a few days then they are back to their self. I am currently researching other options besides meds. We have tried behavior counseling that worked for a few months then it didn't have a affect on them. We tried anger management family sessions nothing seemed to work they both go to special needs private schools to separate ones they both have countless meetings and follow ups it's insane the average individual will not be able to handle on that I deal with on a daily basis plus have a pre teen a 14 month old and your own health issues to deal with. @jordyn_beth #mombassdorchat

Sometimes you know your body better than everyone else. Not every woman will produce high levels of hcg throughout pregnancy some it can take weeks some it can take months don’t trust a blood test don’t trust a urine test trust your heart and when you know it’s times it’s time this doctor was not a gynecologist so he did not give me a quantitative blood test to actually see what my hcg level is at I hope this helps some of you ladies who just feel like giving up and stop testing because of what everyone else thinks or what a doctor tells you trust your body you know your body better than a blood test and a pee test and god will lead you to the right path
