Want to get my son a pet. He loves animals. Both his papas have dogs that he loves to play with so much. Plus this one papa and his great papa has cats that he loves to. I tried adopting a dog from my step brother it was a year old Chihuahua mix. She was great with my son at my step brother house but as soon as I got her to our place she turned on him. She ended up biting him on the hand when all he tried to do was pet her. He was being so nice to her he is never mean or rough with any animal. He is great with animals for a almost 11 month old. My question is should I get a puppy or kitten so it can grow up with him or should I wait until he is older. Need help so bad I want him to have a playmate

I would suggest a dog over a cat and wouldn't suggest a puppy. Older dogs are great to start out with.

@2-mommies ok like what bread. His ones papas have rat terriers 3 of them and his other papa has a black lab and a Shepard boxer mix. The only one that is really good with him and I dont worry about him with this the Shepard boxer mix

@davidmom labs and boxers are good dogs for older kids. I would just go to the local shelter and find one that is a medium size so that it's not afraid of your LO and maybe one that's a little more on the laid back side.

I have a walker coon hound and a blue tick and they are the sweetest dogs ive ever been around and they love kids

I agree with getting an adult dog .
Puppies are sooo much work. I have a blue tick beagle mix. He's so sweet with the kids . I did get him as a puppy for free though. He required a lot of attention. So with a puppy and toddler it would be a lot of work (my daughter was 2.5 at that time)
While he's a great dog he requires a lot of excercise and very vocal. Please do your research on the breed :)
