Today is my 6 week check up. And dont know of ive been having the baby blues or post partum depression. What would they recommend if i told the Dr? And would I be able to extend my Disibility leave?
I just went to my appointment they gave me a paper and I filled it out. They didn't really look at it. I just left it on the counter for them to see.
@lindseygirl92272 they gave me a paper asking me alot of questions to see if i am suffering from postpartum depression. I filled it out and let them know all of my symptoms. And they said i had PPD. So they set me up an appt with Behavioral Health to speak to a therapist. Theyll either give you a medication or set you up with a counselor to speak with.
@racheg138 I have my appointment today. What did they do for you? If you don't mind me asking?
@lindseygirl92272 i just got out of my appt. And they were very understanding. They try to help you and your baby as much as they can. Theyll ask questions so just be very truthfull.
I feel the same way. I had my baby 6 weeks ago and im having post partum depression . I was going to tell my doctor but afraid of what might happen.
@mermaidmeshy lol im up all hours as well. Thank you for the info. I will definitely keep posted. Thank you again
@racheg138 Good luck! I hope it all goes well. I'm here to chat if you ever need to vent! I'm up all hours of the night, so I'll eventually see messages!
@mermaidmeshy and i am suppost to go back to work in 2 weeks. And i dont know if they can extend me to be off a little longer. We shall see
@racheg138 That's it. Sometimes getting out if the house works, sometimes I just want to hide.
Your doctor will recommend meds to try. Don't worry if they don't seem to work. What works for one person may not work for you, but give them at least a month. They need time to work, and your body needs time to adjust.
@mermaidmeshy thats exactly how i feel. I cry alot and feel very overwhelmed with high anxiety. I need to take a breather every now and then
@racheg138 Since I'm already anxiety ridden (more anxiety than depression) so when I can't calm my baby down, or if both my husband and I are frustrated, my anxiety goes through the roof.
Sometimes I have to just let her cry and walk away. (After putting her in a safe place like her cradle)
Sometimes it comes on for no reason, she's happy or sleeping and I start thinking about all her doctors appointments, that she already needs glasses, will need a cleft palate surgery.
Sometimes an idiot online can trigger it. (Hasn't happened here, but other apps or forums)
Seriously the best thing I did was recognize that something is off, and talk to my doctor. The meds I'm already on were upped. I got a recommendation for a therapist. Things are better. But not everyday is perfect. Some days are, some aren't.
@racheg138 baby blues are usually in the first 2 weeks and that's normal. If its gone beyond 2 weeks its probably progressed to postpartum
@mermaidmeshy that's great to know thank you. Ill bring that up today and see what they can do. May i ask what symptoms you had for PPD?
And if a therapist that you might potentially see tells you that you may need more time home, they may be the ones to help with extended leave.
Your OB can help with meds and a recommendation to someone to talk to, that's it.
I have PPD, I'm on anxiety and depression medications. Some days suck. Especially with a new baby.
The best thing you can do for both of you is what you're doing now. You recognize that something is off. Definitely talk to your doctor. They won't judge, or deem you an unfit parent, they will help!
@lindseygirl92272 wow really? Might be different with each hospital. Not sure
