17 month old suspected autism? So, from birth my son has been the most amazing baby. He got off the binky at 2 months old, would breast feed and drink from bottles no issue, switched to sippies at 4 months on the first day, crawled at 6 months, walked at 11 months. Even since he's been climbing, running, walking backwards and on tiptoes, goes upstairs like a champ. But, around 12 months I started to be concerned by how little he talked. He would say momma/dada but that was it. I brought it up to his doctor and she wasn't concerned. Since then, he picked up a few more words. Like he'll drop something and say uh oh, or he'll clap his hands and say yay. He'll wave and say hi and bye bye. He also says hi daddy. All the new words came so quickly and then he kind of reached this plateau where he won't pick up any new words. Now he's talking a lot less; when he was babbling and talking all the time. He also does this thing where he'll flap his arms. This started around 13 months, but I didn't know that was a sign of autism. I thought he was just being silly, so I didn't think anything of it. He's also starting to not want to make eye contact with us. Another thing, is that he won't respond to his name at all. We thought he was just ignoring us. He will also play with us sometimes, and include us. But has done this less recently. He doesn't pay attention when we try to teach him things either or look when we point. I didn't know that regressive autism was a thing until I googled it. It's been making it hard for my husband and I to wrap our heads around it. I know that he hasn't been diagnosed with it yet, but honestly all I've been doing is crying. I know there could be a lot worse things than autism. Honestly, I just don't want people to treat him different. I love my son so much, no matter what. I just don't know what to do or what comes next. So I would appreciate and advice or info you mommy's out there have to offer. 💕

Definitely get a hearing test first. There are too many doctors that will push Autism before anything else. And like @sherrynygirl said, kids do learn at different levels. My daughter did not speak many words until she was 18 months old. That's when she got tubes in her ears and she could hear a whole lot better. She's 2 years 7 months now and still doesn't speak much but I signed her up for Early Intervention and they just said it was because she was a little behind from getting tubes in her ears and such. She's caught up a lot but not as much as most almost 3 year olds. I'm not as concerned anymore though. She'll get there.
