I am a housekeeper and a nanny to this one business guy and my situation is a bit different because i work at his home and not an actual job but I'm still employed by his company.... well I asked his assistant if they give paid maternity leave and she said that he has in the past but he doesn't have to pay it. But he has given paid maternity leave based upon performance. She also said it's not out of the question yet but I'm freaking out a little because I really do need this. If I can't get paid maternity leave I have to go back to work a week after I give birth. We can't afford for me not to work because I have the higher paying job...

I would talk to the company I am employed by its the law to get maternity leave.

@mommabear10124, it's the law to give maternity leave, but it doesn't have to be paid.
Also your doctor won't let you go back to work for fear of something happening. With a vaginal birth you get written out for a minimum of 6 weeks.

You should still be able to collect disability. I would look more into that hun. Because that would be bs if he didn't pay you .

@mommabear10124, @courtney.welsh, the problem is, he owns the company, like he's the CEO and everything. He's very nice so I'm sure he'll give me maternity leave but I can't do unpaid just because we will not be able to pay rent or bills or anything. I've just been freaking out about it for awhile because who knows when they will let me know for sure. Knowing them they would wait till I give birth to tell me if I get paid maternity leave or not

@mommabear10124, that differs by state. It's not required by law to pay maternity leave, I had 6 weeks off without pay. The disability for temporary maternity leave has to be filed in Ohio before you even conceive a baby. Most people don't know that. I didn't so I got paid nothing. I had a c section too so I was supposed to be written off for 8 weeks but since I did so well I went back in 6. But some do qualify depending upon requirements per state. @alyssa_hoffmaster, Look into your disability requirements by state. I hope it all works out. Luckily my husband is the higher paid employee so we made it. We actually did better than we thought without my pay.
