Question for mommies with toddlers or older kids....when did you child/children start talking? At what age? How did you help them learn how to talk other than talking to them and reading with them?
@jaymebaby07 but also when we started he was not even saying 25 words... they came.and evaluated him and it seemed like within days he was saying 2x as many words than the weeks before.
@mommab4, my daughter points to things and that is how she lets us know what she wants right now....I read to her and stuff I just want to make sure I'm encouraging her and helping her as much as possible
@kparis I know! My daughter walked at an earlier age and she walks and runs now but with her speech it seems different...I know I shouldn't be worried I think I'm just taking what others say into consideration too much and worrying myself for no reason
@solaya28 I'm just having some difficulty trying to get her to say the words that I say to her. We practice with body parts like ears, nose, eyes, etc....she can point them out but she doesn't really give much effort to saying them and it gets frustrating because I don't know if it's just because she doesn't want to say them or if she isn't understanding me
My daughter started when she was 6 months, her first word was her name which I consider difficult for a baby ( Solaya ) besides reading to her I always talk to her like if she were an adult, I used to put the radio to her..: that's all that I remember
@jaymebaby07 I wouldn't worry to much about it. You will notice how much she picks up between now and 2.
With that being said my 3rd is 2 now and hE was not putting together words.. grunting and crying for everything. We started speech therapy and she has given us tons of activities to do with him to try and get him putting words together. He is doing great now.
@jaymebaby07, at this point I wouldn't be too concerned but when she's 2 if she hasn't picked up new/larger vocabulary I'd get her evaluated. For now keep doin what your doin and encourage speech with play :)
@mathews132, is it something you recommend? I don't think she needs it and honestly that would be the only reason I would think of doing speech therapy...if she needed it. But I mean if it helps we might try it
My daughter is 14 months and she says mama and dada but that's it. I heard that ever kid starts talking at different ages but my mother is telling me that she should be forming other words by now and it's really making me think....is my child behind in talking. I read to her and we talk and all that but ugh I just have my moms voice in my ear about it constantly
