So I'm really hoping that some moms can help me with this... My 6 week old Connor wants to eat 4-5 ounces every 2-2.5 hours. The pediatrician told me to hold out and try to feed him every 3-4 hours. How do I do this when he won't stop crying until he eats?? Once he eats he usually goes to sleep and when he wakes up the whole process repeats itself. I would love any advice!!!

1st, thats way too much. Babies his age only need 2oz. So hes crying possibly because his stomach hurts.

@drewandvaehsmommy I don't understand why the doctor didn't tell me that because they said 3-4 ounces is normal. He won't take his pacifier when he's hungry because it's not food. He will keep sucking on everything until I give him the bottle.

Also formula is very harsh on babies. It can take a while to get their bodies adjusted to it. Why are you not breastfeeding?

@drewandvaehsmommy I wasn't able too produce enough. I tried and was really upset about it because I wanted to breastfeed.

What makes you think that?

@beebaby Do you have any advice on how to pace him?

@drewandvaehsmommy The doctor told me. I tried pumping too but barely got anything.

You weren't producing enough? Baby is only 6 weeks it takes time for your milk to adjust also. Lots of women think oh I dont make enough but your body knows how much to make for many as long as you keep nursing on demand.

Have you tried like distracting him. Babies have a strong sucking reflex. What type of Paci are you using? My daughter loves soothies.

Pumping can mess up supply especially this early thats where you messed up. Pumping is not as effective as having baby suck from you so that's why nothing comes out and moms think they dont make enough. You need a new dr because that dr clearly knows nothing
Stephanie Ashlin ·
@drewandvaehsmommy Well I'm a new mom and I listen to the doctors. They had me supplementing with formula but then it became all formula because I wasn't getting enough.
Stephanie Ashlin ·
@momma2imani Yeah I've tried different positions, rocking him, singing to him, but nothing calms him. He isn't a fan of pacifiers. He has soothes but doesn't take well to them. His favorite is his Mam one but he only takes that one when he really wants it.

@cubanese I also saw the lactation consultant and she's the one who had me start supplementing with formula because my baby kept falling asleep while on the breast and did that more than he did feeding. Unfortunately I cannot go back to the breast feeding but now I know if I have any more children.

Breastfeeding isn't for everyone, doctors have medical degrees and lactation consultants are the real deal. I had the same struggle and I was taught to pace feed. @beebaby, is right, they will eat whatever is given to them. And if you're unsure of your doctors advice, get a second opinion from another one. They wouldn't have degrees if they don't know anything. You can message me if you like, I'll try to help to the best of my ability because I can relate. :)
