Let's welcome @Arivera64 today! Not only is she chatting about what do this summer with kids, she's also hosting a mom.life playdate at Waterville Park, CT this Saturday June 24th! Please contact her for more details!
Today we'll share ways to keep your kids busy, and ways to save yourself time while teaching your kids to be more independent during the summer. Ask @Arivera64 anything and share your tips too in the comments below. For more info, here's the link to her blog post.
This Saturday is June 24, not the 26th. The flier has it correct, but the post itself has the wrong date. Just thought I'd let you know so there's no confusion. :)
Hi my name is tiffany ellis and im 26 years old and i have two boys that our 3 years old one isn't mine but i treat him like he is mine and my son is in sc but hoping to get him back soon also have a 9 month old little girl name olivia and we are excited about doing play dates and all
Keep your kids busy with reward charts etc. Give them small tasks outside of their regular chores. Provide a reading list. For every so many books they read, they can get a reward like a trip to get ice cream etc. This keeps the house clean, keeps them reading, and keeps everybody happy
Speaking of staying cool....always carry a bag with an ice pack that has wet cloths, cooling towels etc if you're going to be out. Don't forget sunblock and aloe. While i may want to mentally survive summer, I want to physically survive it too lol.
@joanna.davis definitely if it hits 90° I stay indoors. That's a busy bag day for sure. Especially with toddlers and infants. Heat exhaustion is serious and can happen very quickly with little ones.
This is also the perfect time to take advantage of family packages for places like the aquarium and the zoo. My local zoo has a family pass (2 adults and any amount of children living with you for $120. This is not a season pass. It is for a full year. I could take my kids to the zoo for free everyday for a whole year if i wanted. It pays for itself in 2 trips
Not shared in my blog are some fun things I found in my community. If you go online, you may have some similar things where you live. Don't go broke this summer! Find free or low cost activities to do. Check your local library. Mine has things like kids yoga, movie night, etc all for free.
My local movie theatre also has $1 movies every Tuesday and Wednesday. The movies are not new, but for $1....the kids would love to go see trolls, peanuts etc again.
The second thing i shared was busy bags. Summer isn't all filled with sunny days. It also doesn't give you magic energy to go out everyday. Busy bags to the rescue. Buy ziploc bags, snacks, and crafts/supplies based on your childs age. Create a craft activity that will keep them busy for an hour.
If you check out my blog, you'll see i shared 2 ideas. One is meal prep. Preparing meals ahead of time will save you on days where you're in over your head, or you just want to lay down but your kids need to eat. This will also help your kids learn independence.
@smilingwithmyawesome4kids my kids were homeschooled, so this is the first year I've enjoyed the "break" from my kids going to public school. This will be a new adventure for me.
