Almost two years ago we lost our nana to brain cancer. We didn't know she had it till it was to late. She fought breast cancer could never have kids of her own and passed away with the one thing she said she didn't want to die from cancer. She wasn't our nana by blood or by marriage she became our nana the day she moved in next to us. We came home one day with our two boys we had at the time and she was on her porch crying. We didn't know her very well she had only been there for a week but asked if everything was ok. She lied at first and said she was missing her momma who had passed from cancer as well. After talking to her for a while we learnt she put every penny she had into getting the small trailer she was in, she had no food no money nothing and me cooking every night made her tummy growl so I offered to pick up her meals till she could get things back on top for herself. She ate dinner with us every night after she would make a dish if she had the stuff and bring it over. She held me while I laughed and cried the night we found out I was pregnant with our youngest boy. She held me when I cried over my momma being a failure in my life. She was there through it all, late at night and early in the morning. If she was having a bad day I was there. She watched my three boys one day so I could go to work and my husband came home to her holding my boys and having a heart attack. She didn't ever think of herself she was always putting others first. She moved an hour away where there was no more us and no more help she knew she was sick and didn't want to put the kids through it but we drove an hour each way every week trying to give her hope and help her fight the cancer trying to help her remember her birthday and her name. It was hard to hang on and stay tough but she knew how to keep it together so I was learning just for her. I was so hurt the day she passed I was at work and became this mess. I couldn't find cover for my shift but found time off to be at her viewing. I sit here with my new baby alone at night because my husband works over nights and miss her company miss her love and everything she offered to my life emotions. Always hold those people who make an impact on you close because one day they won't be here.
