I always see the 'which plate do you fix first ordeal.... your mans or your childrens'
But for us, I fix all the plates at the same time and we all wait until everyone is seated before anyone begins to eat. It would be unfair to pick and choose who eats first, when we all are important. We also cherish our time together as a family eating dinner. Everyone can wait the few extra minutes it takes to plate the food and sit down.

That's what we do! I make everyone's plate at the same time. When I was younger, my parents did the same, and when we got older, we all served ourselves.

I typically make the kids first then ours but there is usually always enough for everyone anyways the kids take longer to eat most of the time so it works out
