Hey ladies, so we need to move out our current home so I've been house hunting for a while. I've seen some ok houses, problem is they're all way smaller than our current place. I'm supposed to put a deposit down on a place today, I'm just worried that it's so much smaller than what we're used to. Plus it's all hardwoods & I'm used to having carpets. Another worry is that my baby will be learning to walk on hardwoods (she currently pulls herself up & uses furniture/push toys to walk around). She doesn't really fall, or when she does she lands on her butt, but it still makes me nervous doing so on hardwoods. Anyway, am I way over thinking all this? Has anyone else moved to a smaller place & made it work? & for those who have hardwoods & small children, did the babies do fine learning to walk & everything? Also, I'm worried I'll have to sweep/mop constantly to keep the hardwoods clean, how often do you ladies sweep/mop so that the family isn't walking around with dirty feet/socks? Hubby says I'm definitely over thinking all this so maybe you ladies can help ease my mind lol (sorry this post is so freaking long)
@caysonsmommy16 yeah I should probably donate/throw out all the stuff we don't want/need but I'm such a procrastinator lol
@channy87, yeah he is quite the character.I have carpet in my new house and I intend on ripping in all up and putting down hardwood lol. It's just way easier. You would be surprised when you downsize how much stuff you have that you actually never even seen or remember buying.
@caysonsmommy16 lol your son is too funny. I don't have any dogs so I'm starting to think keeping the hardwoods clean won't be as bad as I thought
We have hardwood all throughout the house and my son learned to walk just fine. I actually think he learned to walk faster because when he fell it actually kind of stung lol. He started walking at 10 months and running by 10 1/2. Lol but we have to sweep at least once a day and I have three of the most shedding dogs in existence apparently so we have to sweep and vacuum at least 3 times a day jut because of dog hair. It is so much easier to clean than carpet though when my son decides to make mashed up blueberries or raspberries with his feet.
@trice4990 the place I'm thinking to get literally has hardwoods in every room (tile in kitchen/bath). My current place has carpet in every room (except kitchen/bath) & I vacuum all of downstairs at least once a day, sometimes twice a day, & upstairs gets vacuumed like once a week. I was never a fan of hardwoods but all the nice places I've seen so far have nothing but hardwoods smh this new place has plenty of storage space but the living room is smaller & we have bulky furniture. Plus we're in a 4 bedroom right now & the new place is only 3 bedroom so I'll have to figure out how to organize all our bedroom furniture with one less room. I'm so nervous that we'll be cramped in this new place
@nerualauren yea I've heard it's easier to maintain, especially since my kids are young & messy lol hopefully it won't be too bad for me, I can handle that cleaning schedule lol
@mathews132 that's what my hubby says lol I'm definitely thinking about that, I just don't want to spend a fortune
I can tell you from experience that we moved from our townhouse to a 3 bedroom trailer when I was pregnant because I thought it was bigger and we'd have more room for the baby! BOY WAS I WRONG. It's almost smaller because we had a garage before for storage. Ontop of that the WHOLE house except the babies room is hardwood floor which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world but one speck of anything and your child is picking it up to eat it off the floor as opposed to carpet where most things are hidden inside the carpet! We have a huge area rug in every room but if I actually tried to keep it clean I'd have to vacuum multiple times a week that I don't have time for! I will NEVER move into a place with this much hardwood ever again! Esp with a child it's a nightmare
Depending on the layout of the house and what is happening in your is what's going to lead into how much you clean... I have hardwoods floors throughout my whole house and I sweep everyday because of dust. My son is older and doesn't really spill things on the floor. I mop every few days, even maybe once a week. I find it easier to maintain than carpet!
@channy87, girl if I could get paid for procrastinating I would be a millionaire!
