@dreamermom i had two steriod shots for her lungs at 26 weeks...her lungs still ended up being under developed. Since they gave her the fluid in her lungs she was missing though she started getting better. Right now whats reassuring to me is shes breathing on her own and shes started opening her eyes looking around...probably the most reassuring though is that the easier its getting for her to breathe the stronger the grip in her little hand gets and the more active shes becoming. I just cant wait to bring her home...

@bethany_swaney, yeah... with my daughter, they were able to get 2 days of steroids in me to develop her lungs before she was born, so I don't have any knowledge when it comes to breathing problems... but she was tube fed through her nose for several days then bottle fed for about 2 months... just take heart knowing she's tight where she should be... and all you can do is keep pumping, and going up to see her as much as possible! I was usually there by 5 am, and typically stayed until just after 6 pm, each day... it really goes faster than you think!

@dreamermom unfortantly thats not the case here. Were renting the hostpital pump for 2 weeks. Hopefully by then shell be home. I just did my second pump/expression and gave them what i could get. Well, anyway were allowed to come up here everyday as much and as long as we want. The nursery told me to try and come for at least 2 feeds a day. Bring what ive been able to pump so far as well. Right now her breathings to fast for them to allow her food (shes on the IV fluids) so theyve been taking and storing what i pump so they can feed her, her first meal as soon as shes able to. The first one will be through a tube in her nose. If she does good theyll transition her to the bottle, and if she does good on the bottle i was told theyll try to see if shell latch to me once a day. As for staying with her they only have these rooms called, "transition" rooms. Your only able to use them when your baby meets certain conditions and is at least 2 days away from being discharged.

Some hospitals have rooms (based on how full they are) where NICU parents can stay overnight to be close to their little ones, my daughter was in the NICU, and I stayed and extra night or two after being released so I could keep on a solid pumping schedule with her... then when I was able to rent a good breast pump, I went home and made it my mission to pump when I was not with her... that first drive home without your baby is... to this day one of the hardest things I ever had to do... I cried most of the way home! Just focus on what you can do for her, like pumping, and know that very soon she will be home!
