Q3: @amandajelks I love that you’re an activist and call yourself an intersectional feminist when it can be such a controversial term? When did your activism start and do you think it helped empower you to achieve all your success? momlifechats

My activism started in high school, months after I had given birth, when I realized that a majority of my peers thought that teen pregnancy and drug abuse was not a real issue. Although I was quite shy at that stage in life, I was able to convince the superintendent over the local schools to have a forum on those issues. That is also what immediately launched my public speaking. I transformed into an advocate, a person who can have the hard conversations even if my voice shakes while doing so. Intersectional feminism is the perfect blend of my two primary causes - minorities and women. Traditionally, feminism has quite routinely left minority women out of the mix. I do think it has helped me get to where I am today. Many of the transitions I have made in life, including starting a business, were because I was not willing to accept the status quo quo when the status quo was flat-out wrong. #momlifechats
