So I was told I shouldn't let my 14 month old almost 15 month old watch cartoons until she's at least 2 because it could effect her brain development but its literally the only way I can catch up on housework. I don't let her watch tv all the time but I do when I need to get things done. Does anyone know if there is some truth to this? 🙄😫

I let my daughter (16 months) watch one episode of cartoons (little Einsteins, storybots, or baby Einsteins) every few days. Or if I really need to get something done. I think it really depends. If you're putting them in in front of the tv for hours every single day I can definitely see how it could be detrimental....and I guess it also depends on what they're watching. But I don't think one show is going to matter

I put different shows on the TV to have it in the background. Signing time, baby first TV, Rachel and the tree schoolers, baby Einstein and brainy babies.
It's mostly educational songs and stuff, but he doesn't really sit and watch it. He's all over the house . One that's really got his attention is Big Bug Band. He loves music.

Oh and...as a generation x'er we watched a ton of tv as kids. Saturday cartoons were life...and after school shows...omg we rushed home after school lol.

This is definitely true. I took a psychology course in brain development from fetuses until adolescents. All the motion going on on the screen will have your babies' brain racing. It's what makes younger kids get bored easily, because there's something always in fast motion in front of their face. It causes them to not put much attention on certain things. Baby Einstein is a joke, there is no proof that it helps a baby learn. No technology for a baby is best. Doctors say you should really stray away from tv until a baby is 3 years old but I can't imagine abstaining them for that long. Their brains are still developing and if your not interacting with their brains they lose some of their synapses that are forming connections. There's a lot of research and even on YouTube. I studied this intensely because I let my son watch tv and wanted to see the effects!!

@nerualauren, oh wow! Thanks for the good information. I'm not letting her watch much tv now.

@_amandahiatt, no problem! I don't know if your interested but ted talks has short clips less than 15 minutes long on brain development on every stage... it's interesting stuff

@nerualauren, yes, I find that stuff to very interesting. Thanks again!
