My son was premature and he only eats half an ounce, sometimes one ounce, every 3 hrs. However, I am making way too much milk. I am freezing it but since he is so little, I think some of it might go to waste. Could I donate some of it??
You can donate it but sometimes it's good to put that milk in your bath too! Great for rash for baby or even your bath. Might come handy later though. Especially if you wanna go out.
@tempysmomma is he home or still in the nicu? They usually increase gradually but consistently, my preemie was in the nicu for 3 months by the time she was discharged she was eating 2.5 ounces every 2-3 hours. That lasted a month and half then she was up to 4 ounces. She was at 4 ounces every 3 hours for 6ish months and in a day that is alot of breastmilk.
@ecahanes maybe it will come in handy this summer. With a heat rash?? @jacqui2012.jl most of the time he is only eating half an ounce. When I give him a full ounce he spits it up. Do you think he will really start eating more soon?
Frozen milk is good for a year! I highly suggest keeping it, my biggest regret is my supply for my preemie only lasting me 5 months and not doing anything to keep mu supply up. He may only take 1oz right now but before you know it he will be taking 4 to 5 ounces.
Of course! I'd urge you to look locally first. Mom groups on fb, local groups, other local classifieds. Then call around to hospitals to see if they will accept it.
Keep it because if you decide to just bottle feed with breast milk you will be able to build and have enough until he is one. Or if you plan on breastfeeding for a while you can use it in baths for rashes or whatever
