My son is a month old. I'm breast feeding most of the day but I do supplement. I get WIC and they put him on Gerber soy. And ever since then he hasn't been pooping as much. His doctor says we'll breastfed babies poop almost every feeding. Well he was until he started drinking the soy. Now it's been 2 days since he has pooped. And he keeps acting like he's trying to go. And he can't. What should I do? My sister is a nurse with babies and she said he can go up to 5 days. But I just don't see that feeling very well.
@the.seminole.812 thank you. Yea I breastfeed all day. I only supplement at night. Bc I'm a single mom to my 1month old son and 3 yr old daughter so I need rest lol. Yea rest what's that lol. But he sleeps like 5 hours straight at night.
Formula is a huge adjustment on a baby's system. It is harder to digest which can make it take longer to form a bowel movement. If at all possible I would keep nursing as much as possible.
Also,
All my kids were EBF. The first 4 pooped nonstop. My newest is a month old and poops every 3-4 days. Even with breastmilk being a laxative some babies kust hold onto their poop especially when they're growing. They tend to use up every bit of breastmilk into their growth spurt.
I see. I hated pumping also. Yeah he's probably trying to adjust to both. You can give him gripe water and see if that helps.
Bc I can't pump it's to painful. And I only supplement at night. Bc I have a 3 yr old I have to tend to so his Dr told me at night would be good. Bc he seriously sleeps almost 5 to 6 hrs straight at night.
@kambam thank u
