Any input on the nexplanon arm implant for birth control? I wanted the iud but I heard it hurts…

I got nexplanon about a month ago. The procedure doesn't hurt. (This is coming from a person who is terrifed of shots). But it is known for making you have mood swings. & I don't have a period, but I have been spotting since last week.

I had mine in for less than a year. It gave me terrible mood swings and I didn't have a period for a few months and then I bled for 55 days straight. I wouldn't recommend it at all. It also causes polyscystic ovary syndrome. I had a cyst on my right ovary that was almost 5 cm and I had to get it removed and now I have another cyst on my left ovary that is 4.3 cm....I got the nexplanon taken out and I'm on pills now and things seem to be better

Got the Nexplanon last week at my first postpartum visit. They numbed the are with an injection and after a few hours the numbness wore off it's a bit sore and slightly uncomfortable with a bit of bruising still there.

Thanks ladies. I almost just feel like I don't have a choice. I can't take any of the pills cause I Will forget, I don't want to go thorough the pain of the merina cause any pain down there freaks me out now. I was on the nuvaring and loved it but can't take it cause it can cause me to lose my milk supply..

I have an iud and it didn't hurt too bad when they put it in....it was more discomfort than anything

Thanks for the input mathews123 but I'm just really squeamish now about any pain or discomfort with my cervix since he's been born lol not to sure what I should do

I got mirena at my 6 week appointment. It didn't hurt me when they put it in and I had a little cramping a couple hours after. They only thing I didn't like about it was that my periods would last 2 weeks then off 2 weeks then 2 weeks off 3 weeks. Mine fell out after having it in for almost a year.

Now I've been on nexplanon since last march. I didn't get my first "period"until November and it lasted the whole month. I put period in quotes because it was literally spitting the whole month. Not enough to wear a tampon or pad. Most days my Pantone liners were empty and only when I wipe there was blood. I just started my second "period" yesterday and it's been the same way. Only when I wipe there's blood but still nothing on the liner. So I'd have to say I like the nexplanon better than the mirena.

I had the mirena iud put in and no discomfort at all.

I had an IUD put in at 4mo postpartum and no pain. Super bad cramps for two days, like really bad period cramps. I've had spotting since but they said there would be a 2 month adjustment period as your body gets used to it.

So how do you guys think I should go about choosing between the two? Seems like both have good and bad things that happen (as with all birth controls) but these are a little more longer lasting. I just want to make the right decision

I haven't had any issues with my nexplanon. I spot every so often but it's nothing compared to a real period. After about a week of having it, I barely even noticed it. I've had it for over a year now. I would recommend it if you have issues remembering to take pills and don't wanna bother with shots. I was offered the iud but I just don't feel comfortable with having something inserted into me down there.
