Hey! So before I freak out and call his pediatrician, I'm going to take this to you guys first bc I know I'm overreacting.

So Brian isn't sleeping well, and he's super fussy. He's been up every hour since last night, and when he is in his bed he fusses and doesn't sleep well before waking up crying. He will drink half his normal bottle, then fall asleep in my arms. Then as soon as I put him in his bed he can't get comfortable and sleep again. Until last night he was sleeping 3-5 hours at a time comfortably (he even slept 7 hours two nights ago).

I have tried burping him. Massaging him. Swaddling him tight. Making sure he wasn't too warm. Or too cold. I've never given him medicine. I have gripe water and Tylenol. He is 7 weeks old. What do you think could be causing this, and what do you think I can do to help him?

@mrsgraffiti, they don't always have fevers with ear infections. My baby was doing the same thing. I knew something was bothering him but he had no fever and wasn't messing with his ears. I took him anyway and doc said he had a nasty ear infection. They definitely don't always have the same symptoms. If all else fails, have him checked. It can't hurt 😊

@brookemmoore, He doesn't have a fever, nor is he displaying any of the classic signs. I'm wondering, though.

Oh my gosh, we had a Bjorn! I hated it! We traded in for a wrap too. Ive used it everyday since we got it. It did wonders for her tummy troubles! Stuffy nose would definitely cause a fussy baby. Poor guy 🤗

@brendamariex3, I've never tried the warm cloth. Do you think laying him on his belly on a heated blanket could help?

@babyamama, my husband and I have been talking about trading in his baby Bjorn for a wrap. We read it's good for colic. Unfortunately the weather has been shitty and we don't like taking him out in the cold/rain. I'm all about the snuggles :) . I've noticed he also seems to have a stuffy nose. I'm sure that's causing some discomfort.

@mrsgraffiti, hahaha! Don't we all?!

He may just be having an "off" spell, which happens! Stick to your mama gut though. If it lasts for a week or so maybe there's something more to it. In the mean time when my little baby goes through a funk, extra closeness worked for us. I'd wear her a lot and wear her for naps through out the day. I've found sometimes there's nothing wrong other than she doesn't know what to do herself! For me, when all else fails I put her in my wrap!

@mrsgraffiti, yeah, my chiropractor says that so far, once a baby has been under his care, the parents have not reported 'colic' as a problem any longer... birth is traumatic for their little bodies... they have no way to tell us that something hurts! Made sense to me, I was getting adjustments before/durning/after my pregnancy... and when things were aligned I felt better and slept better... when things are out of alignment I get grumpy!

@babyamama, his pediatrician tells me everything is normal lol. I think she thinks I'm overreacting about everything.

@babyamama, his belly isn't hard. He strains while pooping which his pediatrician says is normal at this age. He doesn't arch his back, but he kicks and straightens out like a board sometimes. We call it "grumping" lol

My LO was the same as a newborn for her first 2 months of life. It turned out she had horrible silent reflux due to food allergies (breastfed) ENT suggested settling tummy with putting them in a wrap a wearing through out the day and then for sleeping try a rock and play and/or laying them on the left side. And it did wonders! Still up a lot but got much longer stretches at night and day. Is his little tummy hard? Pooping ok? Does he do a lot of arching his back and trashing?

@dreamermom, Immensely!! I never would have thought of a chiropractor!! I'll have to look into that!

I agree with a couple others about possible colic and/or tummy issues... my daughter spent her first 13 days in the NICU, and they often laid her on her tummy... I have a SIDS monitor called a snuza, that I would put on her and then I would have her nap on her tummy... for night time we had to get her a memory foam mattress pad, because the bed was too hard, and she would not sleep more than an hour! We also started taking her to see our chiropractor at about the same time around 4 weeks... he is super gentle did some stretches with her... noticed a couple spots out of place, and gave her a slight adjustment... tummy sleeping for naps, a mattress pad, and seeing the chiropractor really helped her... at 5 weeks she started sleeping 5-8 hours every night! Hope that helps you!

@mrsgraffiti, no problem!! Be careful laying him on his stomach though until he can pick his head up and move it fluently. And rocking motins as well if you stand and rock that may help

@garber1979, We also noticed that when we switched him to Gentlease he got more gassy! I'm going to try some tummy laying and see if it will help work it out. I figured since I tried all the gas remedies it wasn't that - so relieved to know there are some things I haven't tried :)

@aubreylynnsmommy, We have suspected colic for awhile now. Good to know that these are more effects of colic! I have tried the usual remedies and they aren't working, maybe it's time for the gripe water. I'll try and lay him on his belly for a bit first. Thanks so much!

@mrsgraffiti, my daughter was and is the exact same way, I brought her to the doctor turns out she's colic. She slept in her swing for the first 2 months of her life. Then I realized during tummy time that she could fluently pick her head up and move it. I started laying her on her stomach in her crib and now she'll sleep 5 hours straight I think the pressure on her stomach helps the gas. Also mylacon (not spelled right) and gripe water both have been like a god sent for us, oh and a switch of formula to soy based instead of milk! Good luck!

My daughter would react that way quite a bit because she was extremely gassy and then developed acid reflux when I went from nursing to formula feeding. Found out that she needed to be on Soy formula, even though that made her more gassy, but she outgrew that and is still on Soy. We always did Gripe water and DoTERRA Digestzen essential oil, plus lavender oil to help calm her. That's what made me become a consultant for them, because I don't want a bunch of medicines and chemicals going into my children's bodies that are unnecessary. Maybe try massaging his belly and bringing his legs up to where his knees would touch his chest, and then stretch them back out, and keep repeating a few times. Hope something helps your little guy out.

Could be reflux or ear infection. A lot of times they can't lay down which is why they want to lay on us as moms. Could be anything though.

Ok I guess I'm not asking the question right. I dont expect him to be on a schedule. It's not a schedule I'm worried about. It's the fact that he is obviously not feeling well. I'll just google it. Thanks!

@maverickandjosiah060516, We actually put his swing together yesterday and he was not happy in it. I'm assuming it takes a bit to get used to. He does like his rocker, I will try to get him to sleep in that - maybe the rocking motion will help. Thanks!

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?

So my doctor says I have to start putting the baby in his crib at night and letting him cry it out when he wakes for a bottle. She says he should be sleeping 10-12 hours at a time by now (he only sleeps about 2-3 hours before he wakes wanting a bottle or pacifier). She swears if we do this it won't take more than 3 nights for him to adjust and start sleeping better. She says that he should only get 1-2 naps a day too and we should lay him down at night as soon as he starts showing signs of being sleepy like rubbing his eyes, not waiting until he's exhausted. - I just don't know if I can do it, letting him cry at night.. I just don't know. Has anyone else done this?

I give up. I'm done trying get him to follow thru with anything. he says well have a good night tonight and he's sleeping. he's been sleeping since 6. he always wants foot rubs and back rubs, and I stay up till 2AM doing his laundry, I wake up early to make his lunch and coffee. And I even wake him up to feed him so he doesn't go to bed hungry, I make sure he has everything for work, and I pretty much do everything. he spent his entire paycheck last week and I gave him the only 50$ I had to my name so he could make it to work till he gets paid again. did I get a thank you for any of those? no. I get him sleeping all day every second he's off work, and being an asshole to me when I miss something.
