It's so dumb. The nurse was so rude about it too. Like we should have known kinda thing. This is our first baby. No one told us anything and they knew we weren't married. The nurse made it clear that she could care less when she said she's too busy and patient care is more important than making sure our baby's dad is on her birth certificate.

What? That's ridiculous! We didn't have to go through any of that. And if she's the only one that can do it, then she needs to make time. She should've told you sooner if she had a full schedule.

When I gave birth, the postpartum floor was FULL of bitchy nurses. Sometimes you just gotta be bitchy right back to get things done. We really only had one good nurse. Put your foot down, mama. Don't let them push you around. You're a new mama and you have enough on your plate already.

I've never heard of that. I'm not married and my son has his dad's last name, i never had to do any of that.

This is all so frustrating! I just want her to have his last name.

That is ridiculous. My ex and I weren't married either. We signed the birth certificate the same day she was born and she got his last name. That hospital is stupid.

That's ridiculous. You could give your child any name you want, you could give the baby your step dad's last name of you wanted! Well at least in my state. I hope you get it figured out. Sounds like it's been not a pleasant hospital trip for you. I hope things get better.

Cant you give whatever name you want no matter what

I'm pretty sure you can name your baby whatever. I know plenty of people who gave their kids the dads name even if they weren't married/together

Ask for a supervisor and report her! She shouldn't be allowed to speak to you like that to begin with, let alone dictate your birth certificate

He doesn't have to do a paternity test. Pretty sure he just needs to have the affidavit signed and notarized. Shed have to witness. Request the head nurse and tell her all about that rude nurse. You can name your child what you WANT. We have 2 kids 1 has my last name and one his!

I know our hospitals have the affidavit, but they don't need to take a paternity test, and you can write whatever you want for their last name on the birth certificate paperwork. They can't tell you no, that's ridiculous!

Ugh this place makes me so mad. They better get it figured out.
