My son was diagnosed first with ADHD and bipolar disorder when he was 6 and then a year later he was diagnosed with severe ADHD and autism. I told his pediatricians office for 3 years that I thought he was autistic and they ignored me the whole time telling me it was just a phase and that he was little boy and little boys are harder to raise.
