@lilfree16, well she was in the NICU for 13 days, so I had to pump, they would add a small amount of formula to increase the calories and then she was tube fed the first couple of days... then we went to bottles once she was strong enough(still adding small amounts of formula)... they had her on a 3 hour schedule, so I would start to pump about 35 minutes before it was her feeding time, and I pumped 20-25 minutes... so it was as fresh as I could get it... when we went home, I kept on the same 3 hour schedule, she was already use to it... occasionally she would get hungry at like 2.5hrs, so I'd go ahead and feed her then... at about 3 months, her weight gain had been steady, so we started to nurse... but the machine was stronger so I'd still pump afterward and bottle feed (adding formula) twice a day just so I knew exactly what she was getting like twice a day! By 5 months she went on a nursing strike, and my supply was just gone over night! So we went to just formula after my freezer stash was all used up! I did all I could to make sure she was well fed and growing... so in my book, that is all that mattered! ☺️
My friend mostly pumps and bottle feeds. I exclusively breastfeed right from the breast, on demand. Everyone is different. That doesn't make you a bad mom. :)
I had no choice but to pump and bottle feed and my baby did just fine! You do whatever works best for you... and keeps your baby growing healthy and strong!
