I really need to vent. My landlord does not allow dogs but for my depression and anxiety my doctor recommended getting a dog. She said we could register it as an Emotional Support Animal so by law my landlord had to allow it. My Hubby is 100% against it just because our landlord doesn't allow dogs. He says we will be evicted even though we couldn't be since it would be illegal. My Hubby says if we can find an apartment that allows animals we can get one but I've looked and looked and the only ones that allow dogs are out of our price range. He refuses but he's not taking my feelings about any of this into consideration. My depression hit hard after our last dog and it would help me ALOT to have another but he doesn't care.

@kristinamarie_1996, I actually lived in an apartment that didn't allow certain types of dogs for the longest time, however, my lab/pit is registered as an emotional service animal. All i had to do was show the landlord the documentation and a note from my doctor and by law they were not allowed to evict me or say we couldn't have our dog there anymore.

I would just try to find a new place that accepts dogs. Just because if you don't, your landlord could be pissed and try to evict you for any other little thing. And all of your neighbors may end up hating you and have it out for you since you will have a dog when the apartments don't allow them. Idk, just my opinion and something to consider. I hope it all works out for you :)

@thtrebelchild, That is what I would like to get. Our last dog was a pit bull and he did so much for my depression and anxiety. I found a pit bull that I fell in love with and he is at a shelter and has been for a while. We can afford to get him and get him certified and he comes neutered and up to date on shots and everything but my hubby refuses. He complains and gets upset because I'm so down all the time and he doesn't realize how much this would help me

I'm not sure. I would find out the law about it in NY. I don't think a landlord can over step that

It is different in NY, a girl I know has an ESA dog and they are considered service animals and cannot be denied under any circumstance. @boymama0908, and I know @beebaby, but my hubby refuses to believe anything I try telling him about it

@kristinamarie_1996 Thats what my dog is, is a Emotional Support Dog now..because so many places would turn him down cause he is a Pitbull. I have horrible anxiety && depression and he helps me. But alot of people or places dont understand that, and still like to make it a problem.

Technically you can get a dog if you need it for medical reasons. Almost like a seeing eye dog
