It's really insulting to have someone laugh at you for a decision you made. My own mother is laughing at me for deciding on natural birth all because I'm "clueless". I understand it will be painful but for crying out loud it's my body and my decision. I'm completely hurt for being laughed at. Every decision I had ever made, my mother laughed at me and always told me I was either stupid or a dumbass.

Most of the time when people do that(especially women) is because some weren't strong enough for it .. My MIL did the same thing but I don't give a damn at the end as long as you can set your mind to it and most importantly have a HEALTHY baby it doesn't matter what whoever has something to say .@jerin

Don't let it get to you. As a 1st time mom you're going to deal with a lot of people trying to tell you how and what to do for your child. You just have to ALWAYS stand your ground and let them know you're the captain of your ship and eventually they'll fall back.

My mother and 4 sisters all laughed at me HARD. I was 20 having my first baby and they made fun of my desire to go natural.
I just had my 5th natural home birth on 4/5/17
Some women can not wrap their head around the idea of natural... it does take a lot of inner and outer strength. You almost have to unlearn all the negative and "scary" stuff that is drilled into our minds about birth. It starts at such a young age.
For me only 2 of my births I would deem as "painful" but they were SO dang fast and I was progressing so rapidly that I could barely process what was going on. I would never consider it something I couldn't handle.
Contractions can not be stronger than you because, they ARE you. You are not dying you are not being injured. It is all necessary for the process.
Do you and what you feel is best for you. For some that security is trusting the birth in the care provider's hands and opting for pain medications... for others it is trusting yourself and your body.
