I experienced first hand how extreme, disgusting, disturbing, and hurtful racism is today while I was at work. One of my servers had SEVERAL racial comments made towards her. One of them being "can I have a different server that isn't brown". ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! (It wasn't brought to my attention until after the guest left so I couldn't handle it accordingly.) Then my server went in the back and was hysterically crying because of the things that were said. How on earth could someone be like that and make another human feel so low about themselves and who they are or where they come from.?!?! I am so emotionally distraught by this and I have no idea how to take it. I can't even being to imagine what my server went through and I have been abruptly confronted with such an awful reality. I could never EVER even think of saying those things to someone let alone my server who's going to serve my food. Absolutely disgusts me.

How did your restaurant handle the issue when those people asked that?

@avie, we weren't made aware of the comments until the guest had left. Otherwise we would've refused service and asked them to leave. I will not stand for that ever!! Never acceptable👎🏻

This breaks my heart. Poor girl. Why can't everyone just get along and love each other for what is inside and not because of the color of our skin...

@mommyofaprincess20, she was so strong, she waited until the guest left to say something. I couldn't believe she kept it together for so long. I just wish she would've told me once it happened so I could've handled it for her. No one should EVER have to feel like that. Especially at her workplace. I felt so bad for her. She was hysterically crying. I've never had something like that happen, it's wild !

@kailey.gallentine Yea that's disgustingly surprising. Especially in your location out west. I would expect that to definitely happen somewhere down south but not in California. My husband and I moved from Georgia to NY two years ago just for this reason. We didn't want to raise an interracial child around backwards thinking. Unfortunately it seems like you can try to get away from a vast majority of those idiots but you can never find a place where that kind of thought ceases to exist. It's so scary. Imagine what actions someone like that is capable of, if they are able to say those words without hesitation.

@avie, yes I agree 100% and good for you two to take matters into your own hands and provide a fabulous environment for your little one. I was completely shook. You hear things like this happen but to experience it first hand, especially in Southern California, is just so wild. It broke my heart to see what that did to her. It really hit home seeing what words can do to a person. I was fuming once I found out what was said once the guest left. And oh totally. It baffles me someone can say those words with such hate behind them and mean them. Like deep down that's how he truly feels about her and he doesn't even know her. So sad 👎🏻

@kailey.gallentine I'm sorry you guys had to deal with such a shitty situation 😰 At least next time you'll be a step ahead for communicating any unfair treatment of the staff. I couldn't imagine being that woman. This world is seriously full of sick people. & sick as in the psychiatric sense. Children in school are not taught about cultural competence enough to understand how to be just and equal once they head into the real world. & when small confirmatory biases shape the social psychology of a person, that can seriously lead to disorders. But people are just too afraid to talk about it. Internalized racism isn't even taught in school when it's such a prevalent subject in today's society. It's like you HAVE to wait to go to college to find out about any of these sensitive subjects and not everyone has the opportunity to do so. Although, I do have hope that since the election people have started to wake up to it all.

And I should say "sensitive" with quotes because it's only sensitive to the people who refuse to notice it.

@avie, I feel like the majority of the issues are from certain generations which would be the one to refuse the lessons is schools at such a younger age. But I agree with the recent election I think it'll change pretty shortly. I just let my server go home, she couldn't even talk to us so there's no way she could've finished her shift and she shouldn't have to . Just sickening what words can really do to a person yet the one saying them could care less 😩

@kailey.gallentine, You're so right. Were the guests older? I think she'll be pretty shook up for a while when coming to the restaurant. That's literally the worst thing that can happen as a server. & you're right in your post. How could they have the audacity to say that to someone who was actually serving them food 😒

@avie, yes! Like mid/late 60s. And the guests sitting with the one making the racial comments started laughing at my server when she started to cry and walked away from the table 😡😡😡😡😡
