So my OB ordered my glucose test for this week or early next week. She told me no need to fast... But I read alot of post saying they either had to or chose too. Wondering what is the big purpose of fasting vs not fasting.
It's the 1 hr glucose test. & If im to Quest ((small routine blood test lab)) Do they have me drink the drink & have to stay there the entire hour waiting for the drink to take effect or will they allow me to leave & come back be4 the hour is up?! Tips & pointers appreciated

I just did mines today and they had me stay there the whole hour ....

You have to stay I ate cake and ice cream before I did mine and it made me sick the first time I did it I had a bagel and cream cheese with bacon and was fine I passed both times we will see what happens this time

I ate breakfast before my test. Eggs and turkey bacon and I passed. They gave me the drink before my appt and I drank it the morning of my appt then went in and had my blood drawn

I did the test my first day at a new ob office, without being told about it beforehand. I asked if I was supposed to have fasted but they told me that I didn't have to. Just to make sure I didn't have oodles of sugar beforehand. Some offices tell people you fast, some don't

I ate a big dinner the night before around 8 and just didn't eat and had my test at 9 the next morning. I passed I felt sick the first 10 min after drinking it but then I was fine and I passed. Wasn't bad at all. ☺ Just bring a snack for right after

--- thanks ladies. By the first 3 responses & docs words. Not gunna put myself through the stress of fasting. & Will have my normal serving of oatmeal. Think my 1 cup of coffee ((2 sug-3 cream)) Will be considered 2 much sugar? Lol

When i was pregnant with my son and i did the 1 and 3hr glucose test i failed it of course but you are supposed to fast that way it shows an accurate reading

They told me I could eat before and they didn't tell me I couldn't leave they just called me in to get my blood when the hr was up

Should be fine but yeah they tend to make you stay just in case some woman get sick and if you puke they need to know because then you have to come back and redo it

Mine told me to eat a small meal, gave me a list of what I could eat. Then I drank it one hr before my appointment. I had my blood drawn at the appointment.

@cb958805 I wish they would have given me the drink prior too going... But I think bc my OB isn't doing the test I didn't have that option. Lol

Oh... my first ob sent me to the hospital for the test. This OB does it right in office.
