Jaiden is now 4mnths and doctors told me to begin him with solid foods so each morning I give him a small amount of Gerber rice cereal mixed with BM by spoon and let's him finish his regular bottle.
He doesn't get solids everyday since I know it can cause a little constipation but his poo has been normal these couple weeks.. but today ,
Jaiden just had a bottle and as soon as he was finished he made a poo 💩 ..
I went to change his diaper and noticed that it was BLACK .. his dad says it was dark greenish but I showed my mom and she confirmed it was black as well.
I've called his PED. and I'm waiting on a nurse to give me a call back but they will be closing shortly so I may not hear from them until maybe in the morning.
Other than that he's acting his normal self but I'm still worried

If its dark green thats alot of iron formula does that sometimes and its not a worry about that but if its black that means hes nleeding internally and he needs to be seen asap

It was like a darkish green but blackish color. Then he had to go some more and that diaper was just a dark green color 😕 @cocored55,

@cubanese is correct my ped said the same thing and the same thing happened to my baby and he was fussy for 7 days after! So i quit giving it to him and just stuck to formula. Im so glad it wasnt black though!

@cubanese, that's not necessarily true, well it isn't in my experience. I started my son on solids at 4 months and I haven't had any problems. He still poops normally and everything is fine with him. And he has been having cereal in his milk since 2 and a half months

my nutritionist said 4-6 months is when you start babies on Rice cereal but his PED. said it will help since he is exclusively breastfed. I had to start him on vitamins and at His 4mnth check up he was a couple pounds under the average weight so she said the rice cereal would help but I think it still may be something with his iron. I'm going to keep an eye on it

@tt194210, yes I'm trying to wait it out , waiting on a call but he has pooped again and it went from being that blackish color to now a dark green 😕 so I'm monitoring him as of now to see if anything changes

@cubanese, my mom started me around the same time and I am fine . I will trust his doctor because I'm sure she learned what she knows in the medical field as well.
