Ladies, how did you stop your toddlers from hitting? I need any advice I can get to nip this in the…

How old ?

When my daughter was smaller o would grab her hands and get to her level and tell her it's not nice to hit. Use "nice hands"

I say over and over "gentle, gentle..." in a soothing voice. And take her hand and run it over my face slowly and lightly showing her how to do it. Baes learned this and now she does love pets instead of hitting. Hope this helps!

@ashley.n.dunn, @thydivinemommy, she's two.. she thinks it's funny if I grab her hand and tell her no hitting or not nice or anything when she's hitting and she'll continue to do it... and she also thinks time out is hilarious and actually asks me to be put in time out

I would try physically showing her how to be gentle. Just be consistent with it and she'll get the hang of it.

@ashbabash18, personally time outs never worked for us. What worked best was actually talking about it . Like "I know your mad/upset/fustrated but we still don't hit"

Some parents will give them a pillow to hit instead.

I do gentle parenting so I might not be much of help

We do time out or take away a favorite toy/her tablet. We definitely went through this, not sure if what we did helped or she just grew out of it, but she doesn't hit anymore.

@amyamersonn, I tried taking stuff away today which usually works for her but didn't tonight.. she lost all candy/sweets, tv/computer time, her play kitchen, her puzzles, all drinks except water and got sent to bed early.. I feel like I'm going crazy @ashley.n.dunn, @thydivinemommy, she knows how to be gentle, she's doing this deliberately

And time outs don't work?

Sounds bad but I used to sit my nephews in their highchair and make them face the wall. Bedtime early, while his brothers played. Sitting down in a chair never worked.

@amyamersonn, she doesn't get upset at all over time out, and tonight she was able to climb out of the pack n play we use for time out

@rawwrdinoox, I might have to try the high chair... but I also don't want her to associate that with something negative then stop eating in it...
