This is not a popular topic, because some people don't want to hear it, or "know what's best", but rear-facing is 5 times--that's 500%--safer! I see photos of babies front facing, wearing winter coats or with their straps too low or twisted all the time. I don't say anything because I don't want to meddle, but this story just broke my heart:

@txyogagirl, it just passed here in California January 1st, and also a few other states, so hopefully more states will follow suit.
@ciraclesmiracle, right seems like everyone would follow they should really make it a law. I get so mad bc here in tx I see people with kids not even in seats.
@txyogagirl, I just re-read it and it's actually not law--it's just "suggested best practice". I honestly don't know why someone wouldn't want to follow the "best practice" though--it is 500% safer, after all!
@ciraclesmiracle, omg thank u so much for this info I'm going to show her I'm sure she will get mad but o well. So I thought it was usually a law such as example 50lb or 8 years old or whichever comes first. At least that's what I learned at my last defensive driving class. They never gave any info on smaller children just the 8 year old then after that they don't have to be in any kind of seat as long as they r n back. I took that class around this time last year. I did research on car seats when I was shopping but never read any laws bc Luke is still in the seat he has always had. I'm still using nb insert and he is a chunk. Not sure if I should be or not.
@txyogagirl, I looked it up and it IS law in TX! So the good news is that you can tell them it's the new law! ссылка
According to the car seat website I was looking at (for car seat reviews, etc), the ideal is to have your child rear-face to 3-4 years. I worry that my son will be too tall, but as long as he fits, he sits!!
@levismom, my sister is one of those moms it's so sad but yet she talked about my cousins wife who had her 2 year old rear facing I'm sure they will talk about me when Luke is older bc I will be the mom that leaves him rear facing a long time they already thing I'm so gross bc I wash poop off cloth diaper I'm just like omg it's just 💩 like they don't 💩@ciraclesmiracle, I believe Texas don't have that law but I wish they did
@levismom, that's really sad. I hope nothing bad happens to her baby. I can't imagine living with that guilt.
This! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I know someone who switched their child to front facing at 15 months. I was like, seriously?? You couldn't wait 9 more months??? I kept my mouth shut. She's already the type that you can't tell her anything.
@ciraclesmiracle, that's exactly what I'm saying we all do it.. when I left the hospital I had an after market product in my car seat for a few months before a mom let me know it was unsafe.. and I was soo thankful I thanked her so much for telling me. So it's hard to understand why people get offended when someone is just looking out for your kids safety
True...and sometimes I feel like a broken record. One thing I hate is when people post pics w their kids in car seats incorrectly...just take them out and take a pic
@nowmrspost, its definitely a very delicate subject to broach... it's like telling someone they have food in their teeth or toilet paper on their shoe... except a child's life is at risk!
@txyogagirl, I don't know what the rush is?!? Car seats are a pain whether they're front or rear facing, might as well do it right! In CA rear-facing is the law until 2 years. I hope other states make it the law too.
@corinalopez, I've definitely made mistakes--I'm far from perfect, but if I was putting my child in danger I would hope somebody would say something! I'm sure I would be embarrassed, but I would understand it's from a good place.
I hate seeing that stuff too, but don't wanna offend the mom. I've told close friends about it tho
@ciraclesmiracle, 😭 😭 so sad. They just started a car seat group here on mom life. I don't understand what the rush is for parents to switch them toward facing. My car seat is a stroller and I have had couple moms comment to me like why he isn't strapped or strapped correctly I wasn't offended I'm was grateful but they didn't understand that was all. I don't need to buckle my son to walk the block he is not mobile enough to get out but of course in the car safety is top priority
Yaaaaaaasssssss 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 until at least two. At least. It hurts when I see babies so badly strapped into seats 😞 I don't understand. It's hard because you want to say something for the saftey of the child because you would like to think any mother would take life saving advice but instead it's "offensive" "mama knows best"
@ciraclesmiracle, that would be awesome if everyone follows
