I'm so frustrated. *Long post*Please tell me I'm not in the wrong here! My niece has had head lice for a VERY long time (close to 6 years! With only a handful of times I can recall she didn't have them) and my mom has a verbal custody agreement where she has my neice every other weekend since my brother passed away. My mom finally ended up getting lice too for the first time and my daughter has gotten it 3 times now. I have gotten rid of the lice every time within a week or two but my niece always has nits or live bugs or both. My son has extremely sensitive skin and severe allergies. I can't even feed him preservatives so if he were to get lice, I would have to shave his head. He's only 19 months and I would hate to have to do that so I told my mom that we have decided to stay away until the lice problem is dealt with for them both. My moms head is clear now but my niece is still full of nits and sees my mom every other weekend. There's exposure every time so I told my mom I didn't want to risk it. Is it wrong of me to chose to stay away from my mom till it's gone off my niece too?

You are so not wrong. That is gross. While getting rid of lice sucks, it's relatively easy. How can a child have it for six years?? At least when I was a kid school would send you home if you had lice! Sounds like the CPS near you sucks. Unsanitary living conditions are something they check on I thought.

No CPS needs to send their lazy ass workers over to her house!

@andrewsmommy, I have called several times and my mom called too. The people at CPS told my mom she needed therapy because she was upset about it.

@denise1493, you would think so but I was told it's not life threatening.

@andrewsmommy, she's had it so long she doesn't even itch anymore and they keep her hair in a pony tail all the time. It's hard to see it that way

Dont they consider that like child abuse or neglect if they've had it for that long?

@santistevanmommie, my mom doesn't want me to but that's going to be my last resort. I have tried so many times over the years to give advice on how to get rid of them and even typed out step by step instructions on what we did and nothing. My mom sends products home with her all the time and my niece tells me her mom doesn't even use them!

Have you tried talking to the mom? Maybe it won't be as bad coming from you as opposed to your mom?

@santistevanmommie, it does suck and sadly this isn't the first time we have done this. Things were going better for a few months and bam, lice is back. I just wish there was something I could do. Cps doesn't care

@santistevanmommie, thank you, I am just so frustrated that my mom is making me out to be the bad guy when it's my nieces mom that's the problem. My mom is scared to say anything to her because she is worried the mom won't let my mom see her grandchild anymore because there's no grandparents rights and my brother isn't alive to fight for custody.
