I know it must be difficult. The strep b is a simple swab of the perineum. I know it's not simple for you and I don't know if you believe in God but He is always with me when I have a difficult time. And typically the dr isn't alone. They usually have a female present with them. I hope you feel better soon. Your beautiful baby is a step closer 😊

@mrsgraffiti, they should definitely have a female nurse with them and if they don't you can always ask for a nurse to be in there with you I'm sorry you had to go Thur any of that.

@morganmommy79, @ace160, It's weird bc even with a nurse there I won't feel comfortable bc I won't know her. No matter what I will not be comfortable and it will be hard to relax. It's just easier emotionally when I at least have my husband. Last time I had an exam I kicked the doctor in the face. I don't remember most of it though.

@mrsgraffiti, when I had mine done I had to remove my clothing waste down. I put on a gown and I had to put my legs in the stirrups so they can get to me down there. They took a swan and did a quick swipe down my perineum just to get a sample. They send it to lab to see if there's bacteria. If so you get antibiotics. Can u call your husband while u go thru it? The dr should understand.

@mrsgraffiti, I hope you find some comfort through all this. They get pretty personal when it comes to baby especially in the last trimester. I was violated when I was 13 by my aunts boyfriend and it is hard but I remind myself that the dr is just doing is job. I did find a really good dr. He has never made me feel "violated" during exams. He's quick and to the point.

I'm so sorry! If it helps the test takes about 20 seconds. And it's not internal.

@mrsgraffiti, I deal with some of the same things as you. Make sure you talk to the doctor and if you don't feel comfortable, have a female nurse with you or come back when your husband can be there. It's a very quick swab. I had mine done last time I was there but for as often as you go now there should be no reason they can't wait if you would prefer your husband present! Good luck, I know it's hard.

Oh good! They just lightly run the swab from the vagina to your Perinium area and that's it! I actually ended up having strep b too and I didn't find out till I was in labor but they just give you antibiotics and that's it, my babe is fine! So don't stress over that either! :)
