Yes. It's called a Sprinkle. I had lots of family out of town, so we did a shower with all my girlfriends in town and then after she was here at 2 weeks old. We did a sprinkle. Family got to visit with us and they brought lots of needed things. Clothes, diapers, wipes, bath things, washcloths etc. it was great. Hosted at my own house. But everyone's rough everything. I just had to get dressed 🙂
It's not unusual, actually. I think it's called a sip n' see or something. You're going to need diapers and clothes for a long time, so it would just be for a later portion of her life. I would just get the basics (a few onesies, some diapers, wipes, a crib or bassinet, a car seat, etc). You'll likely not be leaving the house much, so a stroller can probably wait... At least I didn't.
Not necessarily. Gives some time to learn baby and get something they'll know she can use or want.. (IMO) You know what I mean? It's kinda like celebrating with her. & the best part is you don't have to go through the anxiety part of waaaaaiting to use any of it because she'll already be there for it all.
