I recently got a letter from Social Services asking me to provide proof of when i stopped recieving SNAP benefits from Massachusetts. I only get mine through CT. I recently found out my Mom is claiming me, and my two brothers as Dependents under her own SNAP benefits in Massachusetts. Me or my brothers DO NOT live with her. She lives in a homeless shelter.
Now, since shes been falsely claiming me for god knows how long , AND while i had my OWN benefits in CT (for about five months now), will i get in trouble ? I never lied to Social services, i gained my benefits truthfully. I cannot afford to lose my benefits...
Im afraid my mother will be charged with WELFARE FRAUD.
I myself dont want to get in trouble, for i did notbing wrong. I dont want to go to jail.... i had NOTHING to do with this. I agree it is WRONG. I cannot get in trouble... im having a baby in April . Im only 18 years old please help
How do i go about fixing this problem? Should i call SNAP and explain this whole situation??

@sabby no. shes homeless with no money. im afraid she will be in alot of trouble. i myself cannot get in trouble either.

your mom is going to get into alot of trouble unfortunately unless u will take the blame for her I'm sorry your in such a bad situation this is tough...

Sadly, you need to report her. Only she will be charged with fraud. You need your benefits. You are pregnant and need all the resources you can get. It is only fair to you. And, it is only right.
Go to your local social services office and when you get up to the window, tell them you would like to report a claims fraud. They will set you up from there. I am sorry you are dealing with this struggle. Keep your head up. You are doing no wrong. Good will come to you in due time ❤️

shes severly depressed... i dont want her hurting herself over this... shes already told me shes wanted to die. im afraid this will cause alot of emotional distress for her

she told me she "had no choice to claim us, the lady asked her how many children she has and she claimed us all." even though we no longer live with her. @mommy.to.sterling @mrs_velez @nurseandmotherofsorin @sabby

Yeah, she isn't doing it right. It's not by how many kids you have, it's by how many live at home still. You need to report her.

I mean, you can still explain the whole situation, but chances are you'll have to report her. It's either her or you. If you need your benefits, you'll have to make the choice. 👎🏼🙁 she might be able to do sign up for a welfare to work program or find a way to pay back everything she received.
