@hiswifetheirmama, well we don't like to purchase food from a grocery store bc several reasons one we have no clue who grew it how it was cared for if its GMO and most of the time it's not the best quality we did bountiful basket for several years but they recently lost there contract in our area so I went searching for a farm. Basically we made an upfront investment for 1 year to take the same risk as the farmer bc what happens is small farmers spend money to plant seed and upkeep but then if a tornado comes it could literally make them not be able to pay their bills bc there is no crop. So with a CSA (community supported agriculture) we are taking the risk with them bc it's our money they r using. So pray for good weather bc if something happens flood drought etc we don't get a refund bc we signed a contract. We will get 42 share for the year and are welcome to pick free any day I can't wait till it's nice to tote baby out there in the carrier. The seed were started first of Jan bc we paid on Jan 2 so we should have food around April. I have also started my own seeds here at home as backup just incase something happens at the farm. I also plan to grow from plants once my beds are ready and we have last freeze. You can look up Csa farming and probably find all kinds of info. Also everything is organic. We also don't eat meat bc quality but have recently purchased a steer and receive him on feb 17. You have probably seen my deep freezer post. That's another reason why we bought one.
Wow! This is amazing. I've always wanted to live on a farm but my husband is a city man and doesn't want too! I'm going to look into this! My backyard is big enough to have a decent sized garden. Once I finish school in May, I'll have time to invest in it. @txyogagirl,
@withlovedkj, yes I got my first sprout from my seeds today I planted tomato seeds on feb 1. Today I planted blackberries I didn't get a pic but will get one tomorrow and send ya
