Last night I had my first break down, my daughter was up crying for nearly 3 hours (off and on) and nothing would console her, she wasn't wet, hungry. From what I could tell nothing was wrong, I swaddled her, did skin to skin, everything I could think of, and she wouldn't calm down for more than 15 minutes at a time. I didn't know what was wrong, and I felt horrible, I thought I had broken her. What can I try next time to calm her down faster and better, it broke my heart. I'm a single mom by the way, and she's 3 weeks old.
Then this morning, she woke up screaming a cry I had never heard from her before, it reminded me of a scared child, is it possible she had a nightmare? she cried in my arms for 7 minutes before she calmed down and went back to sleep.

Does she have problems passing gas or pooping? sounds like she may be colic. try using gas drops before she eats it could help her tummy feel better if that's what it is. next time try to breath and stay as calm as you can. she can tell when mommy is stressed. I know it's hard to stay calm. my now 11 month old was the same way until her was about 3 months old. it is possible she had a night terror or night mare. does she like warm baths?

Last night was the first time she did anything like this, she doesn't have a hard time passing gas or pooping, but she only goes once a day, her pediatrician said that was fine because she is gaining weight very well. she hates the bath so much haha, she cries the whole time we're in the bathroom, even before I put her in the tub

do you have a swing of vibrating kind,of chair she likes? If you do try putting her in one of them see if it helps sooth her a little. :-)

that happened to me the other day, I broke down because this was the first time shes done it, but I gave her a warm bath and while I was doing that I had one of her blankets in the dryer so after her bath I dressed her in a long onesie and then got the blanket and wrapped it around her tummy and gave her some more milk...it worked like a charm and she fell asleep really fast from 9pm until the next morning. @savanna.95

I haven't had the chance to get a vibrator chair, I need to though, because it's the only place other than my arms that she'll fall asleep. I will try her swing next time, didn't think to try it because she doesn't usually like her swing, but it's worth a try. thank you @mom2them31116

it might be colic or maybe not but I tried that and it worked after 2- 3 hours of crying. she was really sleepy & exhausted.

@mari_contreras I can try something like that, she hates baths though, but maybe I can do something similar with the blanket

Yes her tummy might be hurting so the blanket in the dryer should help.@savanna.95

@mom2them31116 I have a call into her pedi, she doesn't have any cold symptoms but her urine has been very strong smelling the last couple days, I'm worried it could be a UTI or something similar.
