I have a 7 yr old daughter, she's in first grade and has no interest in reading. she's behind in class and she yells, screams, and cries because she doesn't want to read. I've taken her to buy whatever books she wants, taken her to book fairs, and she received some as gifts. she loves having them but doesn't want to read them. Do any of u ladies have this problem or any ideas on how to get her to read?

right? they give her spelling words, a list of 24 other words she needs to learn. and then another sheet with more words that I have to see how many she can read in one minute.. and some of those words she hasn't learned. plus reading and math. it's ridiculous
I don't know why they give kids so much homework?? like for one aint no parents got time for that, and two let them be kids!
yea, it's bad enough forcing her to do her home work. it should be 20 mins a day but she fights me so much it takes like an hour and a half. I've given her stickers when she doesn't fight me (she's only got like 2) bought her toys...she's stubborn I guess..lol
its tough because you don't wanna force them or they hate it more. only suggestion is to find ways to make it interesting and fun. make it a game. take turns on pages if you have to. give rewards for her finishing some reading.
no Drs have told me anything like that and her teachers never mentioned to check her. she can read but she just doesn't want to. so because she doesn't read as much she's behind...
have you ruled out adhd or any learning disorders? as long as she knows how to read it shouldn't be an issue
I had that problem when I was little. And found out I was dyslexic I was so scared to read cuz I couldn't make out the words they were reading.

its too much. these kids need to learn in class. why the hell do we even send them there ugh. hang in there 😓
