Ok so i have a very serious question. No it isnt mom related technically but it IS family related. Anyways...About 5 days ago a drunk driver swerved onto our dead end street (I live at the very end. My driveway is literally the end of the road) and he drove up into our yard and hit our family dog...After a long night at the vets we had to make the difficult decision to put him to sleep because he had severe injuries and would never walk again and would live in pain due to a pinched nerve in his back. We're very torn up about it still...Well we have been doing some thinking and we feel we should adopt a new dog since we want our son to grow up with a companion animal. My fiance never had dogs as a child and grew to fear them, so its important to us that Henry has the chance to bond with animals early on. But my question is, what kind of dog should we be looking for? As in breed. We know we want a medium sized to large sized dog. (our last was an Aussie shepherd mix and we loved his size) But nothing huge like a great dane or newfoundland or Mastiff. We also arent too keen on labs or retrievers. (yes i know they are great dogs but we want to give other breeds a chance) So what kind of dogs would be ok? We live a moderately active lifestyle in the spring, summer and fall. But we die down on physical activity in the winter. We take LOTS of walls in the park as a family when its nice out but otherwise we are couch potatoes. Any suggestions for breeds to look into would be wonderful! Thank you in advance!

Мама двоих (1 год, 4 года)
My grandparents had German Shepards while I grew up. There was a male (while I was 1-10yrs) , he walked beside me any time we went out side. They had another when I was in high school as a freshman I lived with my grandparents, their german Shepard female would walk a quarter mile to my bus stop every day and wait for me.
I am waiting til our youngest is about 3 to get a dog and we talked about a German Shepard. Good luck

German Shepard can be soo amazing. a little hyper as puppies, but with lots of walking and yard play that should help. they can be a little over protective but you can train them nicely. Also, growing up I had a rotty, well a few, they were all AMAZING. um, little dogs id say pug ( they snore a bit but are sweet). maybe a beagle or coon hound. all sweet dogs.

We got a husky this year and my son loves him. They're great dogs if you have an active family. Not good guard dogs tho. They love people.. mine would probably lick a robber to death lol and they're super smart.. my dogs only 7 months old and knows a lot of tricks

Me and my husband have a husky and pitbull. both the sweetest dogs ever. You will want to get as a puppy, if they are raised wrong could run into problems. but our pit wouldn't hurt a fly. we had a Siamese kitten and they were the best of friends.

I know it's a strange breed to suggest but the Chinese Shar Pei is a wonderful family dog. Extremely tolerant and great temperament. The only downside would be some people have problems with the extremely short coat dogs.oils in their skin and such. I'm sorry for your family's loss. Our animals are so much more than just pets.
