You can get pregnant within weeks even if you're still bleeding. You are extremely fertile after giving birth, and bleeding doesn't stop you from ovulating.

You are supposed to wait 6 weeks for sex, to make sure you're fully healed and your cervix is closed (there can be issues with infection if your cervix is open). If you're trying to get pregnant right away, you should talk to your doctor about the risks. I know it's really hard on a woman's body to have 2 pregnancies so close together, but obviously people do it all the time. I have a friend who's babies are 16mo apart and she had a lot of pain with her second pregnancy because her ligaments were so loose because they never fully healed after the first baby.
