so my daughter is 12 days old and I am exclusively breastfeeding and that's all I want to give her. I really don't want to do formula ever. at the same time she isn't gaining weight very fast and the pediatrician wants her atleast at her birth weight by friday. I know I'm making enough milk but I know she's not getting as much as she could be every feeding. I'm wondering if it would really b a good idea to pump and express and give her the milk in bottles so I know she's getting enough. I have flat nipples so I'm using nipple sheilds to feed her and it's hard to go out because it's almost impossible to feed in public if I have to put sheilds on and mess with that. I don't kno i feel like I'd b a bad mom if I did bottle instead of boob, I don't know :/
@daisyhappybelly, I could breast feed so that makes me bad mom cuz my kid where both bottle feed?
I pumped every 2 hours to ensure my supply stayed up, I drank non-alcoholic beer, ate oatmeal, took fish oil pills. Anything to increase my supply
Honestly I would stick with boob I only say that bc my baby is already 10 weeks and I have yet to pump I don't worry about the amount he is eating I think it's the quality of the milk my dr told me different people produce diff kinds of milk so each baby is different. However ur diet is what matter I'm convinced bc when I have a meal full of nutrition I notice my baby eats for shorter amounts and still gets so so full to the point milk coming out his nose. Sometimes after only 6-8 min of eating and he is done then on days were I'm so busy and only have water and a piece of toast for breakfast it seems like baby needs to eat for 30-40 mins and hungry again in one hour. Dr says ur diet can make ur milk richer or more water if u get ur milk to be richer baby will need less to get fat and be full faster @daisyhappybelly hope this helps I would start with diet before I started pumping
@kreeblim, how did you do it? I've read so many horror stories about your milk supply drying up if you just pump.
I had to pump and bottle feed my little man for a little while! It's the same things as breastfeeding your baby is still getting all the nutrients she needs. If you want to breast feed do it in the comfort of your own home but when you go out bottle feed! The baby will do both! My son does :)) good luck mama and don't give up. If you ever need advice with breast feeding the one person on here who helped me the most she is amazing her name is @cubanese and she will help you with any questions you may have :))
couldn't breastfeed
