My 3week old is really gassy and fussy. Took her to the Dr and she said I was overfeeding her since I was feeding her like every hour or so. She said to feed her every 2-3. So I have started doing so and in the meantime of those hours baby wakes up out her nap if I put her to sleep and she cries constantly while awake. She doesn't really care for any of the pacifiers I bought. I'm so stressed out because she has not been sleeping as much as she normally does and I cannot get any sleep either. Im trying to keep her occupied while she is awake but she is fussy and is only content on my breast but I don't want to be her human pacifier either. For you breastfeeding moms. Any suggestions? Am I not feeding her enough or too much?! I'm so tired!!!!

@beautifulone1103, yea, but NAH! If you were overfeeding her, you would have other signs such as frequent spit-up, getting off breast on her own with a mouth full of milk. breastfeed on demand. establishing an eating schedule at 3 wks when breastfeeding is insane. She also might be cluster feeding. My daughter never took a pacifier, so do not be surprised. my son, takes it, but you have to hold it in his mouth and it only lasts 5 min max.

@beautifulone1103, she might be swallowing too much air when she is gulping. it might take her up to 3 mo to learn how not to do that. Both of my kids have been gassy in the first couple of months. Use grape water or gas drops. we also use probiotics to help my son's gut adjust to eating.

Your doctor sounds like an idiot honestly, feed whenever she wants. At 3 weeks old my daughter was eating every hour during the day then every 4 hours at night (she has gained 2 pounds in a month). She could be gassy from a bad latch, have you seen a lactation consultant? Honestly most doctors do not know much about breastfeeding.

Look up cubanese on here. I believe she is a lactation consultant or at least she knows a lot about breastfeeding.

@ravens_mommy, I was thinkn my that but she said baby's tummy is so small she's eating too much too soon which is what's causing the gas cause she hasn't completely digested the prior food which makes sense in a way. So idk at this point it's all trial and error I just hate to see baby so miserable. Yea I have gotten some feedback from cubanese 😉

@concrete, she had been spitting up and throwing up a lot so that made me think I was over feeding her at some point. She finally took the tommy tippee pacifier which she does ok with still not for long periods. I've tried 4others she didn't like those at all. I was giving her bottle at night sometimes but haven't had time to pump lately so strictly nursing this week. So I'm just going to try to feed every 2hours and see how that continues to work cause I she unlatches herself from the breast so I reckon she is full so I know she is getting plenty to eat and she is consistently gaining weight.

we had a similar situation with my little one. she had crazy gas and reflux and was feeding ever hour or sooner. we pushed her back to two hours and I got engorged in both breasts which was awful. BUT after about a week of pushing out minute by minute, all of her reflux and gas issues went away.

she turned into a screaming monster when I started to push out the feedings so we started pushing them back 5 minutes at a time until we got to two hours, but some feedings she would be so unhappy it felt like I was begging her to make it those extra few minutes.
