At Wic they told me 4oz of formula is too much for my newborn so if I start giving him breastmilk, will this apply? Will 4oz of breastmilk every 2-3 hours be too much ??

the role of thumb with formula is 2.5 ounces of formula per pound of body weight each day. so you have to do some math. I feed my baby whenever she seemed hungry. which starting out i would only have an hour or less to myself. Feeding either breastfeeding or formula is going to be a lot of spit up, lots of over feeding, and trail and error for each kid. better well feed than not. the dr will let you know at each visit if baby is gaining too much weight so I wouldn't even worry about that. let the dr worry about that part.

@ellamas don't over think it girl u will do fine. I don't know anything about formula or pumping I have no clue how much my son eats bc he has never had a bottle only straight from my boob and I have never pumped he is already 8 weeks 14 pounds I would say he is healthy he only weight 8.5 at birth I don't time anything I just go with the flow if he eats and 45 mins later crys I give him more if he spits up o well I can clean him but at least I know he is not hungry I tell my husband have U ever layed in bed at night and thought dang that strawberry cake or whatever sounds good but u didn't have it well my theory is that's how babies think when they r hungry I do know breast milk is fatally different than formula and depend on the diet of mom the breastmilk can change in richness to make ur baby eat less or more
@ellamas, why are u scared to over feed? It's better to over feed then Under feed. It's the same like us we have thanksgiving dinner and overeat so I don't see why babies should get too I would hate to think my baby was still hungry and I didn't give him enough. They loose the weight once they start crawling around.
Idk about formula but as far as breastmilk, every baby is different. My son on average drinks 2.5 oz of pumped breastmilk every 2-3 hours and he's 2 1/2 months.
My daughter drank 4 oz at a month old. If your child isn't spitting up after four oz then your not feeding him too much. WIC sometimes doesn't know what their talking about. They told me the same thing and my daughter's doctor told me to feed until my daughter is satisfied.
WIC told me the same when I got my daughter on formula and told me to give her less... come on like I'm going to do that to her. Give her less and she's still hungry? I'm going to give her til she's full. Period. Not letting my kid starve 🙄. Better to know that they're full than to worry that they're still hungry for hours.
